Why we use 'control' while doing colorimetric estimation?? Thanku for the vedio .it really helped me☺
@RevathiPurushothaman4 жыл бұрын
Most welcome. Are you meaning blank or reference?
@anaghas.73384 жыл бұрын
@@RevathiPurushothaman No . In all estimations that i have done in our lab , other than the test solution (the one with unkown concentration)and blank, we used another one named control.i dont understand the purpose of using it.
@RevathiPurushothaman4 жыл бұрын
That may the one which lies within the specification limit. It should be a known standard whose values are known.

In estimation of Copper Sulphate by colorimetric method , blank solution used is aqueous ammonia solution. So the use of blank solution is to set the colorimeter to zero and this is done since ammonia will also have absorbing property , but we are interested only in finding absorbance of Cuprammonium complex in the analyte solution. Ma'am is this ryt?? If not, what is the use of blank solution?? Thank you 😊😊😊
@RevathiPurushothaman4 жыл бұрын
Blank solution is the solvent used to prepare the sample to be analysed. However, if any colouring agent/complexing agent or any other reagent is added to the sample, those reagents should also be added to the blank. So the blank sample should contain all the reagents except the analyte (eg, if you are determining copper, then the solution of copper salt should not be present). This is to ensure that any reagent that absorbs light at the wavelength under study is taken into consideration in the blank solution, as we are setting the meter reading to zero for the blank.

If I used a white light source and a spectrometer, would I still be able to retrieve a spectrum of the sample; albeit with some wavelengths being more absorbed than others. Is only applying a single wavelength a requirement? I have a broadband (white light) LED and I'm wondering if it would be viable to use in such a setup.
@RevathiPurushothaman4 жыл бұрын
This obeys Beer- Lambert law, which is applicable to monochromatic light only. Although we use a source which can give us visible range, we need to select one wavelength at a time.

You can take notes from other video itself. That would be sufficient. You can refer any analytical chemistry textbook.
