My new huge set of colored pencils SOUCOLOR 180. Are they similar to Shuttle art?

Soucolor, Shuttle Arts, Kalour and three other brands are the same pencils as the Bruntfuner pencils.

Yes, same pencils as Shuttle Art and the New Brutfuner. I ordered the Brutfuner 180 in the metal tin.

Thank you for your review. I was hoping to hear more about whether or not the pencils crumbled during use and if the colors from these would stain and not be erasable. I would have liked to have verified that the cores are 4 mms and if well sharpened when using burnishing (hard pressure) if the points broke. Did you test the soft, medium, and darkest gradients of any of the colors? My swatch sheet is smooth paper, without the tooth, or slight roughness, to pull all three gradients of each color onto the page. Just testing a few pencils on colored pencil paper would answer all of these questions. Many coloring books today are being printed on very smooth paper, instead of the rougher colored pencil paper. I don't know how we can lay down all three pressures (hard, medium, and light) for blending on such smooth paper. Can you help me know how to do this on these coloring books using such smooth paper?

I have only small set of 24 Castle Art, botanical colors, and I love Soucolor pencils more.. Maybe Gold Castle Art is better, regular pencils didn't impress me a lot. I used this Soucolor even on simple paper, in Creative Haven, and in Coco Wyo amazon printed book, and they behaved ok, especially considering their price. And colors are vibrant, exactly what I prefer. So far I had sharpening problems with just one pencil, which is also not bad for 180 pencils set

I got the 72pk and I love these pencils. It has a good range of greens and grey's which I love. I color everyday with them and reach for them more than my Prisma pencils. Now Im going to get a few individuals from the Faber Castle and do a little comparing.

What a lovely present. I hope you enjoyed your Christmas celebrations? These pencils look just like the Castle Arts pencils that I have. The barrels are the same. They too are quite soft and well pigmented and bright. You are right, with the Monarch set of Black Widows, you will have plenty of pastels to adding your colourings. My favourite so far is Washed Green. I always loved the Washed Purple from the skin tone sets, and this green one is just as usable and lovely. Iceberg goes really well with it for shadows. New pencils are so much fun.

Ok so if these are oil based as is suggested but not at all mentioned then these are not co parable to Castle Art because they are wax. Every review of these pencils no one comes out and says if they are oil or wax and that makes a huge difference, at least for most people.

I got these under the brand name kalour. I treated the metallic like regular and sorted them in their color families since they seem to just be muted versions of regular colors.

It's a little bit weird that we have the same Chinese pencils under names Shuttle Art / Soucolor / Kalour and so on... but the good thing is that whatever brand you have, you can do color along videos with these pencils as colors and names are the same!

My chart is hand-written, I don't have it in electronic format. I did it on two sheets of A4 paper, and as usual I arrange colors in color families ( first yellow then orange, red, purple-violet, blue, green, brown ,grey) and in each family from lighter to darker shades.

I got the same pencil case as you, except I got it in b?back. I like to put stickers on the outside, and I also write I white gel pen which pencils are inside. It took me hours to swatch and arrange them, and I watched this after you did yours. Turns out we really think alike! Double swatching, sorting, and sharpening them took several hours!!! I tried them out in one of my Creative Haven books and they behave very well. After my Prismas, I like these and then my Artezas best. I have 150 Prismas, and the number of them are what I can handle, but this set is a little much (never thought I would say that!). I would have liked to see a better range of grays, and some pastels and some really darks in each color family with that many pencils, instead of so many similar colors. (Blue is my favorite color, but too many were similar.) I do like them but when I use them up, I doubt I will rebuy them. O The Michaels near me carries Prismas open stock, and it is just too easy to drive by there and pick up a few colors I need. Also, I tend to keep on the lookout for what the 72 set goes on sale and I usually keep a set of those as spare colors.

I also put stickers on my pencil cases because I have two similar pink cases, one for Inktense and second for Polychromos. I really enjoy when pencils sorted in their color families, it really helps to combine pencils better, to search for them quicker. For their price I love Soucolor, at least my hands don't shake, LOL, when I cover huge empty areas with pencils and sharpen them a lot - it helps to save polychromoses and prismas. I would like to be able to purchase some prismas open stock more easily then ordering them abroad - I'm in constant need of Greyed lavender, Eggshell, Ginger root, Light Umber, Pale sage and some other colors, so I will try to purchase them at DickBlick probably

I am very lucky because I live about a 20 minute drive away from a Dick Block store. My only problem with it is I always end up buying way more stuff than I need. But it is really nice to be able to buy so many brands open stock. It's A good way to try out many different kinds of paints, pencils, pens...oh yes, WAAAAYYY too easy to spend A lot of $$$$

I think that I'm a little bit crazy about huge sets... they don't overwhelm me, and 150 prismas for me is a perfect set size. So it will be fun to try even bigger set even if some pencils have very close colors

Hello again. Could you please tell me what paper you colored out your pencils on? The paper that came with my pencils is very smooth and not good for colored pencils. If you used a paper good for these colored pencils, could you please tell me what it is and where I can buy it, please? If I cannot find out what would be a good paper to color my pencils on, I will have to return them, and I would hate to do that with all these beautiful colors if the problem is with the paper and not the pencils. I'm afraid I won't be very helpful here. I never print coloring pages, I color only in books. For my swatch I used cheapest paper from the local store, marked as' paper for graphic' and which is approx 120 gsm. I need it only for color swatching, I don't care much about tests with different pressure or erasing. Usually I'm heavy handed and color everything with maximum 2 layers, so for me was important how they blend, and if I can cover paper with 2 layers without visible white spots of paper texture. In my personal rating these pencils are better than Kalour and StarJoy Gold (both - total horror), better than ARRTX (too waxy even if colors are nice). I used them for coloring in Creative Haven and Mythographic books and I like them. I like to use them together with other brands, Prismacolor or Polychromos. Couple of pencils in the set had problems with breaking during sharpening and continued to break frequently, but that's my only complain about this set.

My problem is that they seem to be changing to very smooth paper like the smooth swatch sheet I was sent with these pencils. Do you have any coloring tutorials in World of Flowers or Secret Garden by Johanna Basford? They have come out on very smooth paper and all the tutorials and color alongs I am finding in them are on the original paper that has some texture. The new ones have changed to paper as smooth as glass. I would really hate to return these pencils, but they don't work well at all on paper that is as smooth as glass. Help!😮‍💨

Unfortunately I don't have World of Flowers or Secret Garden. I have World of Wonders, but my edition has nice paper with good texture. It's a pity if they decided to change paper in later books for more more smooth one.

I own this set and love love love the colors. BUT, I can't stand how often these break when sharpening them. I mean its worse than Prismacolor. I wonder if there is a set that handles sharpening better. Thanks for sharing your video on these.

I'm sorry to hear that your pencils have quality problems. I use simple sharpener and still my Soucolors behave better than Prismacolor and Arteza during sharpening. I suppose that Chinese manufacturing doesn't have good quality control

I agree that it's very convenient! I refused to purchase couple of pencils sets in which I was interested initially, only because they had only numbers and no color names. I don't think that I can work with such sets and I'm too lazy to mark them myself with stickers
