Of the many gang movies coming out of Hollywood in the 80s and 90s, few have stirred and inflamed public opinion as much as Colors. So how come people were so scared of reactions to this film that police had to be deployed to the streets of several major cities in the US on the day that Colors premiered?

I joined a Blood gang at the age of 14...not because I wanted to bit because of where I was from I was being jumped and harrased by a crop set that was literally less the one mile from my house...I honestly had no intentions of joining a gang but I had to in order to stay safe...well bybthe age of 21 I wanted out...my own gang was becoming my enemies...I've learned how dirty and grimey gangs can truly be..I fought our OG one night and beat him badly..I broke his ankle to and embarrassed him in front of other members and females...3 days later I got shot at a BBQ with the gang because that OG couldn't handle his loss and so he tries to have me killed...I was standing at the end of a driveway and a couple members walked up to me actin all friendly and then fired to shots into my back and right buttcheek...I took off running and collapsed a fee houses down...Thank God I survived and I never told the police who shot me...the gang respected me for that..they even told me I could get a higher position in the set...but I just moved out of the state and never looked back..now I have a beautiful wife and 2 daughters..I work hard and I will never go back or suggest anyone join a gang...it will be your own kind that ends up killing you out of jealousy or hate or whatever stupid reason..but im.not fake gang member..in fact I'm truly embarrassed that I even joined that Blood set...but the past Is the past and that happened about 15 years ago...I have the gang tattooed all over my body..and I hate those tats...but it's my own history so just know i don't think I'm all hard or tough...I just think I was a product of my environment...smh...damn those foos were evil and liars...I could of lost my life over something so foolish and dumb...I'm just happy to be here...and kids please don't join a gang...and I am from the west coast and I am from a very well known Blood neighborhood

I grew up in San Diego, I was 15 at the time of Colors. Most of the city at the time was oblivious to crips bloods cholos or any type of gang activity. Colors caused chaos at theaters around the city. Theaters started to only have daytime showings of the film as well having armed security inside during showings.

You can’t put movies out with bloods and crips in it and expect it to be all good. That’s exactly why they didn’t name specific gangs in Menace II Society. However if you pay attention you can tell Kane, A Wax etc were crips. Same thing with Boyz N The Hood. Dough Boy and his crew were crips but they were not called crips. They never specified. You had to pay attention to the colors.

I was in Stuttgart,Germany when this movie arrived. I was an Army brat visiting my friends there. I took my friend Roland to see this movie so he could have a better understanding of the US. He laughed all through the movie. After wards we went for snacks and drinks. I asked what he thought of the movie. He thought it was a very exaggerated story. Very "over the top" movie. He said this type of story could never happen in Germany. The Government would go in with Police and Military units to clear out armed groups threatening law and order. That's what was so funny. The situation was something he would never see there. I told him it really exists. "Why would you allow armed gangs to exist?.Don't you have laws,police,courts?. Why would you tolerate them?. They would be treated as armed terrorists here.". He's never visited me here in the US. I go there for visits. Polizie carry 25 shot Glocks. If a police officer considers his life threatened he shoots the suspect. I watched Neo Nazis threaten a Black American soldier and his White German girlfriend. Polizie ordered them to interlock both hands in front of the body. Feet spread. Full compliance. Corporal pulled his gun and placed it in the ear of the leader. If he moved he knew the trigger would be pulled. The next two people would also catch the bullet.

I was an Army MP stationed in Germany at the time this movie came out and you are correct about how the German government would have handled gangs like that back in that era. We worked with the German Polizei and they took no shit from anyone. I married a German girl and therefore, we keep up on German news and visit her family every couple of years. The Germany you knew then no longer exists, thanks to the current left leaning government that was run by Angela Merkel. She allowed arabs and eastern europeans to enter the country and the subsequent crime rate went way up. The Polizei now are very young, there are a lot of females, and they are trained to be kinder and gentler. Because of that, the criminals run the show over there. There are plenty of KZbin videos of German Polizei being threatened and attacked by criminals and they allow it to happen. Its very sad..

@chitownmo Жыл бұрын
Germany is not the US. Also, criminals have rights. If you are going to arrest a suspect, you need evidence/wotness testimony to prosecute, otherwise no case can be made. In thse communities, many were afraid to testify and some of the cops dodnt care about what happemed to the residemts as they were not of the ethnic backgrounds or lived on thse communities, so they would do the minimum as they viewed it as not beinf their problem.

The movie only depicted the happenings of an impoverished society, due to the ill wills of Reganomics, that left a lot of citizens having to chose crime over starvation.
