Colosseum, Montreux 1969

Done! It started at the beginning of the year and now I finished the project. When I saw Colosseum for the first time in 1970 in Cologne in the sports hall, I was completely blown away. And I could never have imagined remastering this band 50 years later. I have already worked on quite a few albums and concerts of Colosseum and now finally the early phase appears in unprecedented quality in the new box from Repertoire Records. It took four months to restore every single second of sound and picture of those 1969 Montreux performances. And when I had it all done, Repertoire again wanted a promo video, which I produced. Here it is: the project summarized in two and a half minutes. Enjoy!
Geschafft! Es begann Anfang des Jahres und jetzt habe ich das Projekt fertig. Als ich Colosseum erstmalig 1970 in Köln in der Sporthalle sah, war ich völlig hin und weg. Und ich hätte mir nie vorstellen können, 50 Jahre später diese Band zu remastern. Ich habe bereits etliche Alben und Konzerte von Colosseum bearbeitet und jetzt erscheint endlich auch die frühe Phase in nie dagewesener Qualität in der neuen Box von Repertoire Records. Vier Monate lang wurde jede einzelne Sekunde Ton und Bild dieser Auftritte von 1969 in Montreux restauriert. Und als ich das alles fertig hatte, wollte Repertoire wieder ein Promo-Video haben, das ich dann auch noch produziert habe. Hier ist es: das Projekt zusammengefasst in zweieinhalb Minuten. Today - finally! - the CD/DVD was in my mailbox 🙂 A must for all Colosseum fans and chroniclers like me. Eroc has preserved the best possible sound, at least significantly better than the previously known and available versions. For real fans it's worth buying just for "Mandarin At The Pool", what a find! In addition a nice booklet, text as so often by Chris Welch. Thank you Chris, thank you Eroc, thank you Repertoire!!! Actually, the only question that remains is why James Litherland sang "Butty's Blues" in Montreux with different lyrics than on all other known recordings. Will I ever find out?

Großartig! Der Auftritt in Montreux 1969 ist zwar bekannt und auch bereits seit einiger Zeit in recht guter Qualität ("remastered") hier in yt verfügbar, aber es neu abgemischt auf Platte zu verewigen, ist natürlich noch mal eine ganz andere Hausnummer (fast wie eine Wolkenreise, sorry Eroc für den Kalauer, wir kommen aus derselben Ecke Westfalens 🙂). Die Bilder draußen am Wasser habe ich auch noch nie gesehen! Als Allzeit-Colosseum-Fan kann ich nur DANKE sagen an alle, die beteiligt waren!!! Great! The performance in Montreux 1969 is well known and has been available here in yt for some time in quite good quality ("remastered"), but immortalizing it remixed on record is of course a completely different matter (almost like a journey to the clouds , sorry Eroc for the joke, we come from the same corner of Westphalia 🙂). I've never seen the pictures outside by the water either! As an all time Colosseum fan I can only say THANK YOU to everyone who was involved!!!

Nee, da ist nix "remastered" auf YT zu sehen, das ist alles Asche. Ich bekam die Sources direkt von French TV in MXF Format, also vernünftiges Ausgangsmaterial. Leider nur s/w und ziemlich verschwommen. Aber es ging doch noch was rauszuholen. Auch und gerade aus dem Audio. Nein, neu abmischen kann man's leider nicht, denn es existiert nur dieser Ton in Mono. Ja, es wird 'ne (kleine) Box: CD plus DVD, wie man im Clip ja sieht. Und Vinyl und DL kommt auch...

@@RadioCAE Danke Dir vielmals für die Erläuterungen! Deine Arbeit und das Engagement von Repertoire sind so unsagbar wertvoll für uns Fans! Die anderen neu herausgebrachten CDs habe ich schon, und kann ganz gut mit den Originalen und den Bootlegs vergleichen. Ich habe mir eine Liste aller Live-Auftritte bis zum letzten Konzert vor der Reunion (23.10.1971 in Sheffield) erstellt, und kann nur hoffen, dass noch ein paar mehr Mitschnitte von damals auftauchen und zu gebrauchen sind.
