My favourite is Look #3, for the colour AND the style, including the makeup - It's just so pretty on her! I love the phrase "strawberry red" to describe the colour of her dress. Thank you, Christine, as always for your insights, so beautifully articulated. ❤️🍓

My pleasure entirely :) That choice resonated with me as well, it was one of the first looks added to the list. I found she looked very modern in the hairstyle and makeup as well. I have an impression that makeup trends last a longer time than colour and style, and hair even more so, perhaps celebrities are like everyday people in those aspects of appearance.

Welcome to my favourites from the Golden Globes in the Person&Clothing Colour category. Among all the gorgeous colours and styles, these stood out as being imaginative, unexpected, and enhancing for the person who wore them. I'd love to hear if you would have added another look and why (you can find links to the galleries in the Description Box under Image Sources). (Apologies for the snapping sounds, the video was filmed during a freezing rainstorm.)

Happy you did this analysis! I was practicing while watching the red carpet reveals. So many times I wondered why celebrities don’t have a color analyst, it becomes apparent that the right colour is more crucial than the style/silhouettes. Learning so much watching these videos! Thank you!

Thankyou for this video. I really like how you showed your favourites and showed only 'good' colour examples in this video. Getting colours right feels good. So I enjoyed the positive experience and it also must be encouraging for the stars who are human after all and cop a lot from the media. Following your question I had a browse and my standout favourite is Salma Hayek in the sparkling radiating dress, transcendence spreading from her facial expression outwards. I also loved Jennifer Hudson in the gold mirror dress, gave me a sense of glamorous awe. I loved the lines of her neckline reflecting the lines of her hair. And Sepideh Moafi's look transported me into a fairytale. Many others to love as well!

I enjoyed making this video, so many lovely and original choices. Yes to Salma's dress, a beautiful delicate metallic, surprising how much the simple black straps helped give the look substance, as Salma also has in the face and person. Jennifer did look radiant, although it was hard to get past the shine. I missed the repeating lines of neckline and hair, good call on that. And Sepideh was my #11! The shine was wet and a little uneven, like driving on asphalt on a rainy night, and the flower was so beautifully coloured and interesting placed. The size of the flower might seem large for the scale of the person but I loved it.

Great video, and choices. When I look at all the outfits, I also liked how Jessica Chastain wore her spider web dress. To me she balances the light, sparkly, gossamer look so delicately.

If anyone hasn't seen Julia Garner's look from the Globes, I highly recommend it. The color of the dress, style of the dress: the layers with sparkles in lines flowing down instead of everywhere and how the layers end with delicate translucent ruffles, plus the hair colour... Very pleasing to the eye. It was a whole experience. Though I would change the lip color for sure. I loved Sheryl Lee Ralph's dress (I want that dress OMG). It looks blue in some pictures and very purple in others, I prefer the blue. They somehow made the dense network of embellishment work with a vibrant colour which I don't see that often and my South Asian sensibilities loved it. Plus the straight sleek hair added to the look. I don't know if it was the best color for her, it certainly didn't overwhelm but I loved the overall look. They again did the sheer nude lip with liner on her like they did with Niecy Nash, a makeup look seen frequently on black women. They need to give these ladies more deeply pigmented options. They could easily wear both their dresses and stronger lip colors, it shouldn't have to be a choice of pick one or the other. I liked Viola Davis' blue. Was beautiful with her skin and hair. Laverne Cox surprised me with how well she wore that brighter blue (maybe it was at her upper limit of brightness). I enjoyed the big silvery scattered design motifs on it as well as the draping. Even the bleached blonde hair wasn't too bad (surprised again), the peachy-red lip was complimentary too. That eye makeup threw everything off though... like whyyy. I liked that simple green lovely dress on Jenny Slate too. The hair style and color suited the dress. Michelle Yeoh just needed a cooler hair color perhaps and it wasn't a bad look. I appreciate the inkwell peplum with stone embellished neckline and hems. I thought Selena Gomez was wearing black and aubergine but when I looked again after watching this video with an enhanced appreciation for color, I realised the dress was a very deep aubergine very close to black and imagined Niecy Nash wore it at a different occasion. Maybe the dark velvet aubergine in the dress would've been more apparent on a different person. From this video, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Nicole Byer were my favourites. Exquisite takes on a black dress with very good styling. Daisy's was a lovely, modern, wintry adaptation on a Victorian look with lovely taupe gray and varying textures of black. Nicole's hair style and color, makeup, glowing skin, facial dimensions with the billowing fabric underneath were a true composition. I loved how you described her look. You have a delightful capacity for artistic appreciation. Surprised how much better this award show was color and styling wise. Really raised the standard.

If you hadn't said your last sentence, I was going to. How is it possible that we could have made 3 videos from this awards show and so few looks were standouts in the other shows? I wanted to do an Oscars and After-Party video, but the colour success stories were too scarce. It felt a touch depressing, along with the rave comments that became rather meaningless after the first few. I appreciate your comments for other looks from this event. Your descriptions are a pleasure to read without diluting specific colour observations. I've thought of a video with a theme of 'this colour worked but...' or 'this look was great except...', situations we see all the time. Excellent compositions are so powerful. If we saw more of them, they might break through outdated trends like concealer-coloured lips that may work in magazines but not even these celebrities wear them well.

Look 2 was definitely my favorite. The color was stunning on the person, and the style was unique, without being bizarre or distracting. It seems like award show outfits struggle to find that balance, for the most part. The outfits end up looking costume-ish.

I loved that colour for the person as well. I agree about award shows and finding the balance (or balances) between person, colour, and style. And makeup, those trends seem to me to take longer to change than fashion.

I liked the long white dress in look #4. It was a bold choice. The tendency at awards shows is to move toward bling, not away from it. This look allowed her natural beauty to shine through, not compete with her. It was also interesting to look at the two shades of white side by side (your shirt + her dress). I tend to think of white as just white, but there are clearly subtleties. It would be especially important to pick the right white with a simple dress, since you have nothing to fall back on. My favourite look from the GGs was Billy Porter in a fuchsia Christian Siriano tuxedo gown. Beautiful!

Great thoughts here, you're very observant :) I'm impressed that you compare people in the images with me. I'm right there on the same screen and often want to say 'compare this to my hair' or what you did, 'compare this to the white I'm wearing' or whatever, but I try not to draw attention to myself. About Billy's gown, did you love the gown, the colour, the challenge to conventional choices, or Billy's colouring wearing it? All good answers, together or apart, I'm just wondering what inspired the very positive reaction. (Sorry for slow reply, YT sometimes holds comments and I'm not sure why.)

Hello Christine! I just found your channel and I've been binge-watching all of your videos. I adore the way you describe color, it's very inspirational ♥ If it's okay for me to recommend an idea for a future video, I'd say analyzing Margot Robbie's color evolution would be very interesting. I've seen people label her all kinds of seasons, from true spring to soft summer etc... So I'd love to hear your take on it! Sending love from Poland ♥♥♥

Welcome to the channel and happy to hear you're enjoying the videos :) Quite a few people have mentioned Margot. For people whose colouring interpretations are very varied online, chances are I also would have trouble feeling confident (or as confident as images allow), but she would be a great model for wearing all kinds of colours. I'll look carefully through the images and see if I can find a good selection with close-to-natural or consistent hair colour. Thank you for the suggestion!

My favorite look was Letitia Wright in Prada. I can see how some might say it has slightly too much contrast for her, but I appreciate that the energy level of the dress matches the energy level of her coloring and her essence. It looks like something she would own in real life, not like she is borrowing someone else’s clothes. To me, it’s interesting enough to for her to be memorable without distracting from her features.

Yes, I see what you mean. It was certainly a contender. I think the reason I didn't include it was that I keep coming back to the dress rather than the person, but the dress was everything you said, unique, memorable, and capturing something of her essence.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoy the videos. I agree that on the screen, the white is bright next to me. Could be from the sweater, the camera, the software, the movie editing, or the upload to KZbin. Every step changes colour slightly and colours can appear a lot brighter than they are, which is why I so often wear black, the colour least affected by all those steps of software. Since I'm not the focus of the video, I try to put more time into the other aspects.

It's good to hear we agreed on one! I've been so impressed with all the different favourites in the comments for this video, viewers are thinking for themselves, that's a beautiful thing. The colours of Niecy's gown were superb. Making the cape is a variation of the dress (rather than something too neutral or dramatic) brought the look home.

From Google: Wonderful video! Very informative and nice to watch, and a challenge at the end is the icing on the cake 😀 I really liked two photos - of Henry Golding and of Michelle Williams. Men's tuxedos are usually so boring with the constant black, but Henry Golding's blew me away! In addition to wearing black very well because of the strong contrast between the hair and the skin, the play between the shine and matte is impressive - it exactly replicates the shine of his skin against the matte black of the hair. The lapels of the jacket and the matte velvet underneath seem to give an inverted reflection on the head, which is inverted again with the trousers and shoes. This tuxedo is a pleasure to look at! However, I think men should wear more colors to events like this and it won't make them any less elegant... Michelle Williams' dress is phenomenal. The color is almost the same as the color of her skin, but nevertheless it does not merge into a general beige spot, but somehow complements and refreshes it. Her skin just glows, and she herself is as fere as a little fairy! I really liked the color dynamic in the dress from solid to almost sheer and with a bit of shimmer at the end of the curls. Some of the shades of the dress tie in well with the hair, and her shoes echo the satin sheen down the middle of the dress and hair. The lipstick color provides a nice contrast and accent point. Everything about the style and color of my dress looks spot on and Michelle Williams looks young and vibrant. Respect to her stylist! > Brilliant observations! Henry's tux was terrific, the inversions in the neutral colours and textures came across much better after you described them. I imagine that look would have been fantastic in person, and so creative for a tuxedo. And yes to Michelle's dress, a beautiful neutral. I wondered if it had more presence of shape than colour, which can be a great thing. The images varied widely for that look (the photo at Tom and Lorenzo was amazing, gorgeous dress colour next to her skin). Agree also about the lipstick, I'm so glad to see colour in lipstick coming back. Thank you for adding your votes!

With the help of Google > Yes, it's a very original look, and I was impressed! However, I can't shake the feeling that earlier in the day he suddenly decided to go to the events and just threw a jacket over it before going out 😄. And maybe this is a desired effect! I did love the colours in Donald's look, as well as the texture variations. I think he could wear any of them as separates. Something about the style (maybe floppy fabric or a pyjama look, which made a good jacket seem bulky? something around mixed style themes...) or perhaps the amount of reflective white, confused my eye. Actually, the same as the dress as MJ Rodriguez's dress, the style gave me pause but the colour and shine were certainly good.
