+Retro Dolly it is a 'diz', you can buy them (loads on Etsy) or you can use something like a metal washer, or a large button, or make one by drilling a hole in a milk bottle lid :)

This is a really fascinating and informative video. I loved it! It did, however, make me want to grab some roving and start spinning - only I haven't any. The yarns you spun are lovely, and anyone who knits would, I'm sure, love to get their hands on them. Do you sell yarns or rovings on Etsy or eBay, or through a Ravelry store? If so, I know what to answer when I'm asked what I want for Christmas.

hi! i have a question.... the hackle can be used to carding the fiber? or just can be used pre carded fiber? i'm absolutely new in this sorry if my question is stupid :S
@tinyStudioMagazine10 жыл бұрын
Hi Camila! There are no stupid questions! The hackle is great for using to blend colours and fibers, I usually use precarded or precombed fiber for it, if you use fibers with a lot of textures it can be harder to get through the diz, or you could use a bigger hole in the diz.
@camilaanrique389110 жыл бұрын
thanks :)

Huh... so that's what that stuff is used for! I swear, if I ever win the lottery, I'm buying a big house and filling it with all sorts of crafting stuff like this! Right now, the teeny tiny place I CAN afford (eventually) wouldn't be able to fit this stuff...

Thanks for the awesome video! I have been spinning for about a year. I am thinking about a project that would make a silk/alpaca/angora blend, could you use the hackle to blend different fiber types, as well as colors using this method?
@tinyStudioMagazine7 жыл бұрын
yes you can! The only thing you need to check is that your fibers are all about the same length otherwise they wont blend well
@goddessnocturnas8 жыл бұрын
Seems like there is a lot left on there. What do you do with the fluff that is left on the hackle after your diz into roving?

Where can you purchase one of these . I've looked online and I can't find the one I'm looking for
@tinyStudioMagazine10 жыл бұрын
Hi Queen B! If you go to the website www.majacraft.co.nz you can find more information there, and check out their dealer page to find someone to order from. Some dealers don't have everything listed on their website but will still be able to order for you if you send them an email or call. I have to say, this is my favourite fiber prep tool for making roving!

what happens to the excess on the hackle?
@tinyStudioMagazine7 жыл бұрын
You can get more off if you work at it slowly, but I generally use whats left on the hackle on my drum carder to make batts, I never throw out fiber!

What are the sparkly fibers? I'm just wondering... Is it just to make it prettier or do they strengthen it?
