Very useful, thanks. The blogs on the internet and many of the product names contradict each other about whether "cool" is 4000K-ish or 6500K-ish, so this helped me get a sense of it. And "Daylight", "Neutral"/"Natural" and other terms don't seem too consistent out there.

I have a question before I order any more bulbs. I must have a "burning white hot" light in my reading lamp. I find The Philips 100 watt standard bulb meets that need. It is a standard base, clear 1490 lumens. It is referred to as a dimmable sparkling bulb. Problem is it is not an LED and tends to flicker and burn out often. Can you tell me the LED you would replace this with?
@eleanorbell2 жыл бұрын
Replace it with an LED bulb that is the eqivalent lumens (around 1490 lumens) and make sure it the same colour temperature. It sounds like you are refering to a daylight bulb (5500-6000K) but I can't tell without looking at it.

Thank you!!! I recently purchased 40 watt warm led bulbs 💡 for my master bedroom. The base is E-26. They are vintage style. I really enjoy the style of these bulbs but I desire more brightness. I would be very happy with the same bulbs in 60 watts. I can't seem to locate a higher wattage.🤔 Do these bulbs come in higher then 40 watts at 2700.

Thanks for the very informative video! What would you recommend for a home with an open floor plan where the dining room, kitchen and living room are all connected? We currently have smart bulbs and they're a total nightmare. Can't wait to get rid of them.

hi, question for you... I'm building a new house with grey subway tile and grey carpet. I want to make sure that they won't look blue/grey. In the design center they looked very warm and taupe. What type of light bulbs should I be using to avoid bringing out blue? The kitchen w/tile is North facing and the carpet will be both North and South. Thanks so much

I would ask the design showroom what colour temperature their lighting is to get the same level of warmth in your lighting.

Does the room theme colour have an effect on lighting ? For example if room theme is blue, like dark blue shaded wall then cool white would be more reasonable than warm white ?
@eleanorbell3 жыл бұрын
The colour of the room will have an effect on the brightness of the light. For example a dark blue room will absorb a lot of the light, and make it seem darker, whereas a white room will reflect more light off the walls and make it feel brighter. As for the colour temperature - there is no right answer as it depends on what atmosphere you want to create. Cool white will be starker, more like daylight. Warm white will feel more relaxing, more den like.

@@eleanorbell - Thanks, i just completed lighting in my dark blue themed lounge and I agree that it is very much personal taste. I wanted warm cosy feeling in the lounge but as the room walls were dark so I had to put more lights than I would have used with a white walls. Thanks for your help and guidance :)

Hi, this is a great video, thank you! I am doing a little research in order to buy lamps for my apartment and as far as I understood I should choose 2700K for living room and bedroom, however I would like to have a brighter light in the kitchen and in the hall because I do not like the yellow light at night when I am cooking, which made me think to buy a 4000K light bulb for both kitchen and hall. However on the end of your video you mentioned that we should stick with only one color temperature. Does that mean that I should also buy 2700K light bulbs for the kitchen and hall?
@eleanorbell Жыл бұрын
Hi Gabriel, there are no hard and fast rules, but I suggest sticking to the same colour temperature within a room as otherwise it can jar the eye But if you prefer whiter white (4000K) for the kitchen and hall, go for it. That would work even if you have warmer whites in the living room and bedrooms.

In this video she says dont mix the light temperature in a scheme. But does she mean don't mix the lighting temperature in a room or in a whole house? I'm thinking cool white in the office/gym and warm in the bedroom and living room. Suggestions on lighting temp in the kitchen? I'm thinking cool white but not sure.
@eleanorbell4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rebecca, I mean don’t mix the colour temperature in the same room. But it’s fine to mix it up in a house, particular as you use the rooms at different times of the day. I would recommend 4000K for the office/gym; 2200-2700K for the bedrooms and living room - a lovely warm golden light; and 3000K for the kitchen. If you went any cooler in the kitchen, eg. 4000K, it would seem very stark in the evening, so 3000K is a good compromise. Good luck! Eleanor

Question how does the lifespan of a light bulb work does the lifespan degrades when you turn on the light or does it start from zero to 25,000 lifespan or 30,000 lifespan ? Please reply back to my comments when you get a chance thank you ☺️ you're the best!!

Hi so I've read to go with a more relaxed temperature over shower and bathtub of about 3000k but then I've also read that the vanity lighting should be brighter between 4000k-5000k but how does that play out in your rule that the lighting temp within a space should remain consistent? What temps do you suggest for the bathroom vanity and shower?

Is Kelvin same as lumens?
@eleanorbell3 жыл бұрын
Kelvin is colour temperature (whiteness of light - from a very warm yellow white to a very cool blue white). Lumens is light output - how bright the light is.
@deansida41224 жыл бұрын
So a quested if I got 250 lumens will it be too dark for bedroom and hallway would I need around 470 lumen
@KaliBlaz4 жыл бұрын
anything below 600 lumen is too dark as far as i am concerned, low light will hurt your eyes on the long term, don't confuse lumens output and light color temperature, they are two different things.
@eleanorbell4 жыл бұрын
250 lumens is fine for bedside lights but you would need more light in the room in addition to that - like an overhead pendant for example. 470 lumens is OK for a low lit hallway but I would recommend 600-800 lumens. It also depends on our age - as we get older our eyes require more light to see so we want brighter lights. This video is on colour temperature (the warmth of the light not the brightness). I recommend watching this one for lumens - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGLRYoB7jZ2DfNk
