The plastic pellets you saw at the beach 28:40 might be due to a disaster that took place in 2020 as i remember, on the west of srilankan terotorial ocean where a ship got destroyed due to an onboard fire..the wreak washed a lot of debris including those loads and loads of plastic pellets, chocolates, acids, Oils etc. Even though many of those pellets were removed from the beaches i guess many more can be seen throughout the entire west coast of srilanka.. the wreak can still be seen on the ocean washing it's debris including waste

Ah that is very interesting, thank you for sharing. It is unfortunate that Sri Lanka still suffers the effects of that disaster.

The tree in the centre of the shrine is a bo tree (ficus religiosa). Bo trees have major significance in Buddhism. Fun fact: the oldest human planted tree in the world is a bo tree located in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka (i.e., Sri Maha Bodhiya)

Thanks for the information! And that IS a fun fact! I’ll be heading to Anuradhapura later in my trip, so I’ll go find that tree!

Welcome to Srilanka Those white pellets are from the ship call express pearl ownd by Singaporean company, caught fire 🔥 6 months ago Close to Srilanka on Srilankan waters carring chemical s from Middle Eastern port to india . Make an environmental disaster. After burning for few weeks sunk close to Colombo Harbour. Local atourities and people clean are beaches as much as they can .Still these plastic pelets keep pushing to our shows Srilanka has field a case against it at international courts for hazards and damage. So far nothing has happened. It was a massive desaster, headline s on all world media. Keep exploring and enjoying this beautiful island. We are going through one of the most difficult times we ever experience in our history. Thank for visiting Srilanka in this hour of need .because every dollar counts. T shirt you bought is really that price .design and the year they used make the price. It cost from rs 1500.00 to rs 4000 00 Much Love ❤ from SRI LANKA 🇱🇰

Thank you so much for all this interesting information! It’s very sad that Sri Lanka must suffer from environmental disasters which were not of its own making. I guess it’s an example of our deeply connected world…

The tree you see at 6.06 when you are explains about the difference of the religious beliefs of India and Sri Lanka, is called Bo tree a kind of Fig tree (Scientific name is Ficus Religiosa). Its the sacred tree that the Lord Buddha used when he was making himself as Lord Buddha.

Actually 2000 isn't a bad price for that. An excellent price wud be around 1800 for that. However for any other regular clothing from pettah road stalls you generally should not pay over a 1000 for a t shirt.
