Wanted you to know I'm 66 this month. Started in oils years ago, sold most, did cards for a publisher in the 90s (never again). Shifted to acrylics for a few months. Liked it but something missing. Then I found Ellen then you in WCs. Found a love for art again. Now strictly hobby. I've made card sets for friend and family, no chrg. Enjoying my retirement and art. Thank you for being a part of that. ❤

Hi and welcome - belatedly from me as I have noticed many comments from you, for which I’m truly grateful! You’re a tiny bit younger than me but we’re in the same world. For me it’s a huge relief not to need to try to sell my paintings (especially now that there is so much competition from computers) and I really do paint more and more for myself than I ever did before I started the channel - it’s such a thrill to be able to reach out and support other women who are on the same road and I’m so glad you found us - you’re doing a great job! Sending love, Diane xxx

Great addition to the chicken rooster tutorials. I am learning to see the shapes underneath. Even though you did not show how to draw this time, I saw a heart for the main body and an upside down ice cream cone for the head. Added comb, beak and wattle then to the other side for tail flares. Your gentle structuring of the designs leads to better understanding. Thank you for helping me on my journey.

I will have to check out their channel. I like chickens☺️ And the boa, brilliant! I love how loose and easy you put pigment on paper. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks so much Kat! Very kind of you to say so! I’m glad you enjoyed it! I haven’t ever heard of the Boa before, and I didn’t really want to wear one in the kitchen! but for the studio it’s perfect! Plus I’m always keen to help fellow channel starters on their journey - often the little channels are the most fun! Thanks for being here!

You’re welcome! I hope to send a few people your way, and no doubt you’ll do the same for me! My daughter and I are very interested in what you are doing as we have sheep, chickens and a veggie garden which was what brought us to you (looking for info about sheep fencing!)

Oh, he is a splendid thing. I love the way the texture of the paper pops through the paint. Really cool.

Thanks Robin! It’s a linen textured paper which is quite nice to paint on, a good bright white which brings out the colours. Thanks again!

Another beautiful painting!💕 I've been painting on small watercolor paper, but I need to take the plunge and start using my larger pages. Thank you so much for the shout out, that was very kind of you - I'm so glad you made one💗

Thanks Lavinia, it was my pleasure to mention you on the video, it’s a hard slog getting noticed on KZbin and I like to think that we small starter channels are a community which will help each other along the way! I certainly was pleased with my “Painting Boa!!” - it could be a tutorial all of its own. As far as the size of paper goes, you can work on sheets which are only 6 x 8 inches for the little paintings like the robin, but you do need 8 x 10 or thereabouts for the poppies. I rarely paint larger than that. Happy painting!

Love this! Found your account after you left a comment on someone else’s video! Woohoo... so glad I’ve found your videos, going to use them to learn to paint in my newly built summerhouse at the bottom of the garden!

Another beautiful painting. Haven't tried a linen textured paper before will have to give it a go I like the way it looks. Going to check out Hoby Farm Guy's. Thanks for sharing your amazing talent with us.☺

Thanks Eileen, my pleasure !! Yes, the linen textures are nice to work with for a change, the paint moves a bit differently on the paper, but the one I use, which is Fabriano, works well in my view. It’s quite a bright white and shows off the colours well. Where do you live? Do you have a good source of art materials locally?

What do you use for your journals? I see you using them for your watercolor painting. I only have drawing pads.

To answer your question, at the moment I’m using sketchbooks by Etchr. If you go to my Amazon shop front here: www.amazon.com/shop/dianeantonestudio you will find a link to the books and other things I like to use.

Diane, oops I forgot, it's Canson xl water color paper does that make a difference. Is it a poor grade of paper?
@nancyrousseau97142 жыл бұрын
I am using Carson 140pd watercolor paper and it doesn't stay wet. I have to really put down a pool of water or it dries up! Is it because of the paper? I'm always picking up the paper to make sure that it has sufficient water. How much water should there be?
@DianeAntoneStudio2 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to say exactly how much water you need to use. It will depend not only on the paper, but on the climate and the temperature of the place where you are living. For example very warm dry places cause paper to dry very quickly. Judging how much water you need for any particular painting is something you only learn via experience. But in general I just cover the paper with water and let it soak in a little until the shine goes off the paper. If you’re using good enough quality it should stay damp long enough to be able to paint wet in wet. The Canson paper you are using might not be absorbent enough for you. I would suggest you try Bockingford or Etival. You can find these and more suggested papers in my Amazon shop at this link. www.amazon.com/shop/dianeantonestudio
