This was really good. I have seen too many colourists do a realistic animal and then a mass of colours for the doodles on Kerby Rosanes double page spreads. This leads to the animal head looking like it doesn't belong to the doodles behind it. Your picture looked like the animal and the doodles belonged together.

That's very kind of you, thanks. I'm currently doing another but finding the time to complete it is proving to be difficult lately.

Are you still around? I just picked up a copy of Animorphia today and hope to see more great inspiration videos! I am starting with the back of the book in the Answer section - haha. I want to get a feel for the paper. I love bears so I've started with him. When I get to the actual page I will watch yours a few more times!! Thanks!

Hi, I'm still around. I've been wanting to do another animorphia video but I've got a collapsed disc in my neck which causes constant pain, so spending time at a desk...well it causes even more pain. But I'm glad my video has given people a bit of inspiration. I look forward to seeing what you have done 😁👍

@@CraigSparks_ Ouch, I sure am sorry to hear about your neck! Will you need surgery? "what a pain in the neck" ... I just took a photo of what I have coloured so far and when it is on my computer, blown up, it sure shows the areas requiring more work! haha
@CraigSparks_3 жыл бұрын
@@AdventuresWithRobin unfortunately it's not something that surgery can fix, or so I'm told. There's experimental stuff going on but it's at least 10 years away from a practical application. By that time my vertebrae will have fused together. C'est la vie 🤷♂️

thanks Craig, beautiful work, I like your choice of colors and beautiful blending! What I find I dont' like is when people feel they have to use every color in the rainbow in stead of just many shades of one color. Too many colors feel chaotic, yours is serene, ; ) !

Thank you very much. The next one I'm considering doing in just two colours and a 2B pencil.

Thanks. I don't really start with an idea and I just see what happens. Too much thinking kind of ruins the point of adult colouring. I like to switch off.

it's the UK version, the pages are quite thick.
@CraigSparks_8 жыл бұрын
+Slippingwand 220 Not really. There would be some bleed through to the image on the other side o of the page. I think the book would've been better designed with easily removable pages, which it hasn't.
@USMCmom20169 жыл бұрын
Is this the UK book or the US book? I saw a youtube review of the UK book and the pages were thick and really nice. I bought the US book when it came out, and the pages are so thin you can see through it to the designs on the following page.

Hi & thanks. I use a cheap 32 piece WH Smiths set & a 24 piece Derwent set. The Derwent set is softer.

Wow, wow, wow, just.................WOW!!!!!!!! I like this style of color choice, it blends in so good with the whole picture. How much time did it take you to do this?
@CraigSparks_9 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) I couldn't honestly say exactly how long it took me, as I did bits here and there. Probably upwards of seven to nine hours.
@astrids12039 жыл бұрын
Craig Sparks My first, and up till now, only page was with the panther. It took me a few days to get it all done, not counting the hours of sleep, eating etc. I guess in hours it might also have been around 9 or 10, maybe even longer

Astrid S I think that's my third from Animorphia. The hours fly by quickly.

How long did this actually take? iI understand how detailed the pages are because I have the book.
@CraigSparks_8 жыл бұрын
+PetalShine AJ I'm not really sure because I did it all in bits, which is why the camera angle changes so many times. I'd say more than six hours in total. Things like this shouldn't be rushed though.

hello may i ask what colour pencil are u using those things seem good
@CraigSparks_7 жыл бұрын
Hi. I mainly use Derwent pencils, but I did buy a cheap set from a local stationer's shop. I would advise against really cheap pencils. Go as expensive as you can afford. Cheaper pencils don't have vivid pigments and are generally quite hard.

Derwent. They were cheap but they were purchased more than 10 years ago. If you can afford them buy Prismacolor instead.

@Innessofficial9 жыл бұрын
wow your skills are super nice:) how did you learn shading? What advice would you give for a beginner, how to learn to shade best? tnx
@CraigSparks_9 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I'm self taught so it's just a question of practice. Best advice is to buy some high quality coloured pencils. The cheaper they are the harder it is to blend with them. To start with I usually lay down a pale version of the darkest colour I'll be using and then overlay lighter shades right up to the lightest colour. Then I'll go over the colours again, building up depth as I go. The trick is applying subtle pressure to achieve an even blend. I also use a neutral colour (a harder white pencil for example) to bring some of the blending together. I hope this helps.
