I am so happy to see you use Derwent Inktense. I have the set of 72 Inktense pencils and some Sakura water brushes. I would love to see many more pictures done with Inktense. I need to learn so much more. Do you use a light or a medium pressure? Do you prefer to colour with very pointy/sharp pencils or slightly duller pencil tips? What king of paper is best for Inktense? If you upload your videos in real time the viewers can speed it up from the options menu or not.

Thank you! I mostly use my Inktenses to color in Lizzy Cullen's book. I try to do light pressure because they are highly pigmented but I tend to make it medium all the time... so then I have to wipe away excessive pigment when I activate them with water. I don't like to use many layers of them - paper starts to buckle so I try to color mostly in one layer, mixing colors first and then activating them with water. And with Inktenses I don't bother with sharp tip and thorough cover - even if I missed patches after applying water I can spread pigment and fill in missed parts. Yes you can speed up video (just turn off the sound - it will also be speeded up)

I have had the 36 set for some time now. However, I have been wanting the full set of the pencils and blocks for over a year and promised myself I wouldn't use them in the Hanna books until I got both full sets!!! I got both sets today and this weekend is an inktense/hanna marathon!!!!!

Yeah...so happy you are using Inktense on Daydreams!! Wondering if it bleeds through to the other page. Love the way you use colour.......Please do more pages from this book, it is lovely 😊 Have just got my fabulous tin of 120 pencils of Polychromos after many years, 60, and wonder if you could point me to videos you have done using them. Thank you for sharing your talent. 😍

Thank you Britt! Don't worry Inktenses don't bleed through at all, I'm very glad how they work in Hanna books. I'm very happy for you and for your fantastic set of Polychromos! Unfortunately I don't have any Polys, they are terribly expensive here... I have to save for them for a long time. I have only Prismas and Coloursofts.

Thank you very much for the info Alena. I had to wait for 60 years before I could afford to buy the Polychromos, so know how you feel!! Colouring is helping me cope with difficult daily challenges. How long does it take you on average to complete a page, obviously some have more details in them .

Coloring with Alena .

Hi Alena :) I just received my Inktense tin of 36 yesterday and hope to do this picture soon. Must say I am a bit scared they will bleed everywhere over the lines and smoosh into other colours, but I guess I have to do one sooner or later. Is there any chance of you doing some more pictures with them please? Keep up your great work, I love it all :)

Alena. When you begin a new page, how do you choose what part of the picture you will start with.
@ColoringwithAlena
@ColoringwithAlena 6 жыл бұрын
Well, it depends from what page it is ... sometimes I prefer to start from the background, sometimes - from the most important or brightest object on the page. But usually I decide about all main colors for 90% of the page before I start coloring, so it's not so much important from what part I start. If page has huge empty background usually I prefer to start from it - if I mess up background, it will ruin the whole page, so it will be even a bigger disappointment to ruin AFTER I colored all main objects.

How do you do the tiny parts with Inktense? I'll have to try, sooner or later... 😘😘
@ColoringwithAlena
@ColoringwithAlena 7 жыл бұрын
Roberta, I don't colour a tiny part with a pencil... I take a smallest waterbrush and I with it I take pigment from the pencil core. It helps to fill in small parts.

I watch MANY KZbinrs that fo coloring videos. you have the. most unique style of coloring that I've ever seen; BUT, it's sped up so I can't *really* telll what you're doing. I would love to see some parts of your videos in real time, and I bet everyone would want to as well since you do such beautiful work.

You're right Antoibette, and most of my latest tutorials have real-time colorings without speed-up. I'll try to do more real speed videos.

thank you! and I don't just mean inktense, like the page you did on magical Dawn or delights with the colorful bottles and colorful swirls, can't remember the correct book, I would have loved to have seen parts in teal time I've never noticed that you did real time at all...do you naturally color very fast? like I said your technique is very unique I probably watch every coloring KZbin video out there and, yes, I have seen gorgeous work and how everyone has their in stlye buy they are usually similar in some way to other people. like, for me, my coloring style us very similar to Julie bouve. o noticed straight away that you have your own very unique coloring style.at first I thought "how on Earth is this going to come together?" and, like magic, it came together beautifully. thank you for responding, you fo beautiful work and I'm glad you have several inktense videos because I just got the fill set, great deal on Amazon and I had been wanting these I have struggled to learn watercolor via any method, pencil or otherwise, so I'm having a hard time figuring out just how to use these pencils. as for the rest, I may not be capable of coloring like you but you give me inspiration and color palette ideas and you do things that I hear others saying you should do like don't just Kay the pifnebt down you need to sloy build up layers. but I've seen you do it and it all blends together terrifically. but I can't actually tell if you're layong down one dark layer or building your colors by many light layers because its too fast for me to tell. I would gladly watch you in teal time and never get bored. the way you color and your finished work is really amazing!!!

Thanks for your comment and advices! I always have doubts whether to speed up or not because a lot of people told me that real-speed colorings are boring to watch. Maybe I need to do 2 versions... I color quite fast, one picture usually takes 2-3 hours to be finished. I don't apply many layers, I tend to press hard on the pencil and get a lot of pigment on the first layer already. I think I'm too impatient to apply many thin layers like Peta Hewitt does with oil-based FC Poyhromoses. That's why I adore Prismas which blend together magnificently.

Coloring with Alena that us *exactly* what I'm talking about. to me it looks like you down a thick layer as opposed to many light ones. everyone I've listened to says to NOT fo that. but, somehow you make it work. and I'm so curious that I'm actually writing you 😇. I see that the trend has changed whereas a year ago everyone did sped up videos. now it seems to be changing. what I see a lot of people do is, for example, if they are coloring a picture they will show you in teal time how they are coloring and then when they finish they speed it up through any other parts that are like what they've showed you how to color it. I'm not explaining it right but Julie bouve does it a lot. I see more and more people doing that and I really like it, you learn SO much more. btw I would TOTALLY watch an hour long, or longer, real time video from you. although most people break it up into segments, which u totally understand. but my point is your coloring us certainly *not* boring, I could watch you for hours. thanks so much for replying so fast and trying to accommodate my request, that's awesome!

When I want it to go slower, I change the speed in the settings. It makes it easier for me to follow along.
