Explore the rich history of how people have used flags in Antarctica with a free talk by Canterbury Museum Curator Human History Dr Adele Jackson. Since explorers first started planting flags on the icy continent in the nineteenth century, they have been used to symbolise global unity, national ownership claims, victory and even defeat. Adele will provide a fascinating insight into the emotional, political and practical meanings behind historic and contemporary flags. The talk presented by the Friends of Canterbury Museum was held at Christchurch Botanic Gardens Kiosk on 17 October at 10.15 am.
