Somebody informed me that some of the gunwriters and such are referring to this new blued Python as the "2024 Python." I could not confirm that anywhere on the Colt site. Surely, every finish on the same firearm is not going to get a new model name???? How weird would THAT be. Sorry if I'm not in sync with the rest of the world, but to ME it will always be a "2020 Python" with a Blue finish. If they offer it with Cerekote finishes or in nickel finish, it will still be a "2020 Python" with a different finish. Now if they change the design of the action or something, that's a different story.
@heiner717 ай бұрын
Interestingly they restarted the serial number range. All the stainless guns start with PY and then count up. The blue one is PB and counting up again from 1.
@5761037 ай бұрын
The fact it has a different serial number range suggests further that Colt is treating it like a different model (although I admit to a lack of expertise and don’t know how they numbered the original stainless guns as compared to the original blued guns-did they have a separate serial number sequence also?)

He hit the nail on the head. The original python was made on 50s tooling, had hours of hand fitting by trained and expensive humans. If you want such a gun today- ok fine. expect $5k and a long wait list. See the MR73 for reference. Todays machining is and production methods are to the point that we can get 95% of there for $1500. All new products have teething trouble. My python is from 2022- zero issues. I have the feeling the people who dog the new guns are old farts who want a 1975 python at less than $1k and "it aint like it was blah blah". As an older fart myself, there is nothing I hate more than people who complain that "it isn't what it used to be"...well not all things can be or are necessarily worse.

I hoped Colt would be able to bring back the blued Pythons. I'm thrilled at the result - they look fantastic compared to the originals, and their timing should hold up better over time. My only big complaint is that they added an additional vent on top of the barrel on the 4.25" model. It makes the gun look too crowded and more like an older Taurus than an actual Python. Not sure what Colt was thinking when they changed a highly anticipated legacy design randomly, especially since the 4.25" stainless models retain the standard 2-vent setup and look great. Deer Hollow makes excellent reproduction grips that are closer to the originals, thicker, and better looking than the laminate ones that come on the new guns too IMO. And hey, at least that silly QR code is better than the ugly S&W internal lock and the J/K frame reshape that came with it! And as always, thanks for the excellent wheelgun content.

@@toddschutter6535 On the stainless models, yes. But the only barrel lengths presently announced for the new blued models are 6" and 4.25". The 6" has the proper 3-vent setup, but they added a vent to make three on the 4.25", which usually only had two. The stainless guns still have the proper setup, which makes it even more strange that Colt would change things for the blued ones. Edit: Just saw your edit. I agree - it's a disagreeable decision at best, and I'm not a fan since it crowds the top of the gun on the 4.25" models.

Hey Hickok, back in the old days, Colt revolvers were considered rather delicate. Is this true of the new units?

I can’t believe Hickok ended a video on a bunch of misses! That’s a first!

I thought it was supposed to be that old python grips will fit newer pythons and anacondas alike but that the newer grips won't fit the older pythons and anacondas. Idk if that's the case though.

Can you review the matte finish version. There's no videos on it anywhere!

I would love to know what best removes the cylinder burn marks on a blued python without removing or harming the finish? I use a lead removal cloth on my stainless revolvers, but I won't use it on my new Python as I fear it may harm the finish on this beautiful snake gun. Love your opinion(s).

be watchful of the new Anacondas. Mine and every one I have seen so far have very rough bores. They have some severe circumferential tool chatter marks. A borescope reveals they shave lead from cast bullets... My 2020 Python has a beautiful, well made barrell.

Can you elaborate on this? I might be having a similar issue.

My 6 and 8 inch are fine and do not have this issue. Cannot speak for the 4 inch which I have yet to find…

9:23 was that hammer not cocked all the way back or was that some kind of a malfunction?

I was momentarily distracted with the opening words. "I've got a pair of snakes" I honestly thought....what the hell are Biden & Harris doing on the show 😂😂

So I got a 6” blued python a few days ago. Just couldn’t resist it. I have pulled it out of the safe 5 nights in a row just to admire it. Now normally I can’t wait to get any new gun to the range, but I am now pretty ashamed to admit I’m almost hesitant to use it. It’s like getting a new truck and wanting to park it in the back of the parking lot away from everyone because you dread that first scratch. I’ve never felt that way about any firearm before. Like I said- a little ashamed

Most of us can understand that quite well. Plus, no doubt, the Colt Python, new or old, is a "supermodel." I think the guns are all test fired, so it's not like they've actually never been fired. With careful cleaning, it's going to be just as "new" as when you bought it. In fact, I usually get a little dirt out of revolver chambers just from the factory test firing. After I shoot them and clean them the first time, they are actually cleaner and more like new than when I bought them. I like to take a few shots right away to see where they hit and to make my first rear sight adjustments if necessary. My preference is that the revolver will hit where I want it to with the rear sight screwed down tightly to the frame, which is often the case. I see a revolver occasionally, though, that will shoot low without the rear sight raised almost out of the frame, which I do not like.

@@hickok45 that’s great advice! Like I said- I’ve never had this reaction to a new gun before. thank you sir!

I'll take a QR code over a keyhole any day!! The only 1 thing I personally don't care for on the new version is the black hammer. I would definitely take that over a new Smith ANY day, but an old Smith???

Once again the new Python shows up with a hammer issue. Check out 9:22 where the round doesn't fire and Hickok has to push down on the hammer to get it to fire. This is unacceptable from Colt. A hammer pulled back to get the firearm in single action is a basic move that should work every time without having to push down on the hammer after it's been cocked. I didn't expect the bluing to replicate the beautiful finish of an original blued Python, but I did expect to see it function properly.
