Colt King Cobra - 3 Month (Almost) Update!

I've fired close to 1,000 rounds out of this gun and have had zero issues!

They ironed out the kinks for the king cobra by mid 2020 to 2021. The problems you mentioned are from people who got the gun in 2019 and early 2020. They having problems in the 2021 anaconda now and probably some 2020 pythons. They seem to not be able to have the resources to QC new products as well as other companies. Probably due to funding issues, but since CZ took over this year, it will get better from now on.

My King Cobra, purchased August 2023, locked up after 300 or so rounds. Sent back to Colt. Apparently the hammer broke so they replaced it, adjusted the timing and endplay, and returned it within 30 days. No problems since. Ran 200 rounds through it so far but won’t trust it for EDC until I run 500 through it.

I bought the 3 inch today. I guess yours is optimal for conceal carry. The 3 inch just had a balance I liked. The 4 inch target's a great looking gun and gave me pause too. All of them are things one wants to get. I've also heard about manufacturing issues on King Cobras, so I'd hope the majority don't have problems.

Well I'm now the Proud Owner of this model king Cobra and an 8in Anaconda, I must say the Anaconda trigger in single and double action is even better than the Cobra. Again as a Smith Fanboy, I'm sad to say My Cobra, and ESPECIALLY THE Anaconda, not only have smother actions than Smith .....But both, again ESPECIALLY the Anaconda ....are also better Presentations then what Smith&Wesson is Currently offering.

I really like my King Cobra. The trigger pull is basically identical to my original Python. Same pull weight, same pull length, same hold spot for double action aim, and same sweet let off. I have yet to shoot well with .357 rounds in it. The recoil is something... I have other 357, 44mag, 45 to compare that with. Only my 44 mag has more muzzle blast and recoil. If I load with 38 wadcutters I get a wicked little concealed carry gun. With those 38 loads the KC puts shots where I ask it to. I had to special order a holster. My 3" KC will fit in the back pocket of my work pants... not a great draw spot but very stealth and easy carry... don't sit on it. At the moment a 1911 is doing edc for me but come summer with less bulky clothing and I'll go back to the KC.

I’ve carried a Ruger SP101 2.25” for years. When the KC came out I figured eventually I’d pick one up but I wasn’t in a hurry because I rather liked the SP101. A couple of weeks ago my range got in a 3” Python. No sooner had it made it into their display case when I came along and grabbed it. My friend at the range told me they were getting in a couple of King Cobras. Now I have stress. I fully expect to own a KC before I get much older especially if their triggers are even close to the Python’s trigger.

The only real difference I have noticed is that the Python has forged steel parts (trigger, hammer, etc), whilst the King Cobra has metal injection mould (mim) parts. Apart from that the triggers are nearly identical.

The King Cobra has been on my list for a while. I rock a 4" 686 Plus in a kydex iwb holster but I want to be able to use safariland speed loaders. it's been a couple years since it dropped so it might be a safe bet now especially since they can be found new in the 700s

I carry the Night Cobra often in my left jacket pocket when riding my Harley. When you're out in the boonies or long pieces of interstate highways you would be surprised at the amount of idiot bullies and the ways they attempt too potentially kill you when on a motorcycle. Suddenly everything changes when they see the equalizer come out. I could care less about them reporting someone brandishing. I'm legal to carry, clean driving record and ret. LEO.l have more than a few good revolvers for pocket use. Bobbed hammer on the Night Cobra and Smith& Wesson 340 PD,442 Air weight all function well inside a hoodie pocket and of course very well at the range. There's always a use for a well made revolver. Nice piece.👍

What you said about the carry having maybe a slightly better trigger than the 3 inch might be true for whatever reason the 3 inch you can find for sometimes 100 cheaper than the 2 even the mrsp on colts websight has the 2 inch 100 more, I just traded in my king cobra 3 and getting a 2 inch and I will be able to compare them as. I think you misspoke on the 2020 Python having a good SA pull and a bad DA pull. My 2020 Python, and every one I ever handled, has a great DA and a real rough SA pull. I sent it to Mike Heffron at Heffron Precision in Iowa and it now has the best DA pull I have ever personally felt, and the SA pull is up there with the best S&W's which is a real accomplishment. Great report on your King Cobra concealed by the way.

Hi there, It depends on what you personally want. I picked the 2’, because they didn’t have the 3’ and because I wanted a gun for concealed carry. Now that I’ve owned mine for about two years I wouldn’t trade it for the 3’, I am beyond happy with the 2’, in fact I tried carrying a 1911 compact and went back to the King Cobra because I missed it so much. My advice to you would be to put the one on layaway that you personally like better.

Thanks Brotha, Our shop just got in a ALOT of ammo, we ordered it last year and it came in on Monday. 😂 I grabbed a few bags of 357, the issue is every 357 is loaded differently, I got some ammo that was loaded for lever actions, and out of my KC it sounded like an explosion went off and it felt like a donkey kicked my hand 😂.

I put 20 rounds of underwood 125 grain hollow points through my brand new 3 inch version Colt king Cobra. On the 21st round the transfer bar broke. I’m sending it in to be fixed. When it comes back I’ll go out and shoot the same ammo and see what happens. I’m going to put this gun through the ringer before the one year warranty expires. I don’t think this gun will handle a steady diet of high pressure rounds. We’ll see.

You should have got the 3 in, the 38 and 357 ballistics is where it is most effective, for a conceal carry. It is the Goldilocks barrel length for conceal carry 357 mag revolvers, that extra barrel inch is not much as the rest of the gun is the same. I use a craft holster ankle holster specially talored for the the 3 in and can conceal very well. 357 mag and 38 are not good in snubies, you get worse ballistics along with worse handling, the 3 in is just right in terms of ballistics, handling balance, and concealability. Before the FBI moved over to semi-auto pistols, they determined that a 3 inch 357 mag revolver was the best conceal carry field gun. The perfect caliber for snubies (2 inch or less) is the 32 sw long and 327 fed magnum, like the 327 fed magnum lcr ruger makes. None of the other snubies are worth it, 22LR 22 magnum and 9mm snubby has reliability issues, the 357 mag ballistics is wasted in a snub and it is hard to handle to shoot well with it, 38 special is probably the 2nd best caliber for snubies after 32 caliber but just getting a gun that only shoots 38 spl but not 357 seems like a waste. Therefore, the 327 fed magnum lcr from ruger is the only snubby worth getting.

The 2 inch king cobra just take more skills to get the same accuracy performance as the 3 in and above. Though the 3 inch will have better ballistics, the ballistics of the 2in king cobra is more than satisfactory for what your intended purpose is with the gun, it is no weak sauce that is for sure, and depending on the type of ammo you use the difference in ballistics become irrelevant for your needs. On another note, you should check out the sig sauer p238 chambered in 380 acp. One of the best ankle conceal carry for semi auto pistols. The size and print of that thing is incredible. And quality self-defense rounds of 380 acp out in the market rivals the 38 special.

Don’t buy this gun. Mine almost killed me twice when it broke. It broke twice in less than 6 months. It looks great. But is mechanically a train wreak

Yes is a gorgeous gun, but I'm a S&W revolver collector so I like more S&W revolvers, but saying that I really like to buy a Colt revolver, but I want a Colt python but the older model, even my S&W revolvers the most recent I own is from 1997, I only buy S&W revolvers made before 1999, after that year I have 0 intresse! The most recent revolver I own that isn't a S&W was a gift that my wife bought me was my "new" Manurhin MR 73 from 2010, and is a dream to shoot! My EDC is my first S&W revolver that I own since I was a kid (was from my father), and in 25 years of use in my hands already save my life 2 times! So I really get angry when I see retarded people saying that revolvers are obsolete!!! To those people who need 30 rounds to end a treat maybe is better buy a belt feed machine gun!!! Or a rocket launcher! If you don't have aim dosen't matter who many bullets you have in your gun!!!
