When I was 19 or 20 years old my Dad gave me a Colt Python. 6" barrel, royal blue, with rosewood grips (as least I think that's what the grips are made of) that have finger grooves and three white diamonds on the side. I came home from work late one night and my parents were still up. Dad had to got up at 4 am to go to work so he was usually in bed when I got home. I thought I was in trouble or something. He handed it to me in paper bag. LOL. I will never forget that. My son is named Colten because his mother wouldn't let me name him Colt. He had bought it from a guy he worked with in the mill for about $600. It's worth a lot more than that now. It's the only safe queen I own, and it's my pride and joy. Someday, in the not too distant future, it will belong to my son, when I join my dad in glory.

Love the dad story! My dad once at a police gun range in the 80's quick draws his Ruger security 6 and shot a bird flying by out of the air. He acted cool like he does it all the time, he later told me that was the luckiest shot he ever made.

Love the Python. I have a King Cobra 3" currently and it also holds 6 rounds of .357, although a lighter gun overall. Recoil doesn't bother me so it's fantastic.

That $155 gun in 1955 is $1800 today. I have a mid 70's 4" blued Python that I bought new for like $375. Great revolver. It's almost too good to shoot. On a practical carry level other than open carry hunting. No. Too heavy. Too big. Too short of capacity.

Hi Chris, the Python was born to be the bullseye king and I can see a type of match where it would fit BUT the rear sight is not ok the way it is. If I need to give two clicks, for the wind or some other reason, I need exactly two clicks, the K14 gives you that ability, is the Python meant to stay behind the K14?

I thought the Combat Elite Python came with a front tritium sight. Did you change it? Totally agree about these new generation Colt revolvers. Worth every penny. They have that heirloom feel I didn’t get with modern key lock Smiths. When they eventually update their 1911s I hope they add some ramped barrels, especially to the Delta Elite. SS Competition in 9mm with the series 70 system looks pretty good to me.

What do you not like about the colt 1911’s? I always thought the combat unit was best in class value and a solid gun. No one else offered anything as full featured at that price point
@TheofficialCostaludus
@TheofficialCostaludus 2 ай бұрын
The new 1911 need more gunsmithing they need to be smoother. The ones at shot show were not impressive at all. I’m glad yours are well. It’s always a balance of how hard are you running it. 2k in 3 days puts a lot of heat on the parts and pushes it pretty far. I shoot a lot and if it’s not built correctly with the best parts it breaks. For the regular guy it’s probably ok. Parts and gunsmith is where the cost is at unfortunately

CZ needs to change the rear sight and try and make the trigger and hammer like the original Python. The new Python doesn’t have that great single action pull like the original. Bill Wilson is a huge Colt Python fan. He isn’t a fan of the new Python revolver. He did take the time to create an improved rear sight for the new Python.
