Colt Sniper Yellowtail on the San Diego

Had a fun full day trip out on the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing. Yellowtail fishing at the Coronados has been much slower than the past two weeks because of a lot of boat pressure. I was able to stick two on the jig. The San Diego boat and crew is a great boat, especially when the bluefin and yellowfin are local.

Do you always reel in those spoon-type lures like a crankbait or do you do it on these Coltsniper jigs only? If I'm not mistaken these fish were caught pretty close to the surface?

The coltsnipers I let sink out a bit before I rip them back in. Depends on what the fish are doing though. If they're up top wind on the surface if they're on the meter let it sink out

Depends, some days you’ll have better odds if the boat of crowded in the back with people fishing live bait tangling everyone. I’ve been on multiple trips where I’ve outfished people who used bait.

Yes I did. I don’t think it’s necessary for yellowtail. I bent the hooks on 5 out of 7 tuna on an overnight and immediately changed them out. But then again I was running 50-60 pound line with heavy drag.

I'm out in corona. The drive down isn't that bad. Then you fish all day sometimes the drive back is like fuuuuuuuuuk. Especially since you can't (well I cant) sleep well the night before because you are too excited. Running on no sleep doesn't help. But red bull does lmao

Do you use single hooks on your irons? They make it easier to release unwanted cudas.

Colt Snipers and Megabaits aren't Surface Irons. OP was just calling you out on that. Easy to tell you weren't throwing a surface iron cause of how fast your retrieve was.
