I've been familiarizing myself with country music in general and with its particular sub-genres because of Colter Wall. Turns out I dislike 90% but love 10% of it. Apart from some bluegrass, he's the only "country" guy I truly enjoy listening to. It's not just his voice, songwriting, fingerpicking or melodies; it's all of that together. A real gem.

Most country today is just pop music and rap. They've fallen out of touch of what country music really is, Colter Wall preserves it.

Same here, I was never much of a country music fan... though theres been certain songs here and there over the years that I liked, the majority of country music doesnt speak to me especially the pop-country of today. Colter Wall made me want to know more about the classic outlaw country artist, if you go down that rabbit hole you'll find many great country artist... This song in particular is a Wayon Jennings cover, Waylon is one of the most beloved country singers of all time, I personally like Colters cover of "Lets all help the cowboys" more then Waylon's but respect were respects due, Waylon was an all time great. If you never heard it before Outlaw shit by Waylon is a good one, Wheeler Wallker Jr did a beautiful cover of "Outlaw Shit" in tribute to the great Norm Macdonald. Townes Van Zandt "Waitin Round to Die" is a classic and soo so much more.

Cowboys they are ladies men alright They love 'em up & talk 'em up all night But they're lonely when there's nothin' else to do And that's what makes the cowboys sing the blues He does a little Shakespere & he sings He plays the mandolin & other things He looks for love, beauty & I.Q. And that's what makes the cowboys sing the blues ... Cowboys have to fall in love get hurt & all that bit Let thier hearts hang out so they can write you all a hit So ladies if they ask you don't refuse Let's all help the cowboys sing the blues Inst verse... Cowboys they don't ever understand This thing between a woman & a man Untill they find the one they always lose And that's what makes the cowboys sing the blues ... A cowboy takes his lonely pen in hand And tries to make somebody understand But she has ears to hear a different tune And that's what makes the cowboys sing the blues
