Was just in downtown Raleigh, NC last weekend. It's amazing the difference wider streets make to the perception of a city like in Columbia.

At 26:00 this is called the Vista. Tons of bars and restaurants for weekend parties.

At 32:34 you are in the heart of Five Points. As one of the lowest parts of the city, it floods often. If an above amount of rain hits, it is common for this part of town to get 1 to 2 feet of water in the street. Also on St. Patricks day, this area is shut down for drunks and bands. To the right and up the hill is the main campus of USC.

At 28:32 that your camera can't pickup as it will not turn is our beautiful State Capitol building. And to the left is Main Street. Another pretty part of town.

You see the McDonalds on Assembly street constructed in brick? The city made them match the surrounding buildings in on the street. Across four the McDonalds you could see a Publix grocery in the same brick to match the old buildings next to it.

About 30:29 you are entering what is called Five Points. The name comes from five streets converging in the same area. On the right is the right and on the hill is USC. Five points is party town for the campus where all the college drunks go. This area is full of bars and several even parties happen here each year. It is also a part of town full of crime.

As a retired SCDOT employee, not many streets or parts of town I do not know. Columbia is a college town. In the first few minutes of this video, and on the right side of the road mostly was the University of South Carolina. It is a massive amount of room this college takes. I was hoping that you would take Assembly street going south and topping the hill near the university so the viewers could see Williams-Brice Stadium. That is how large the campus is. I know it is not the biggest college in student count but is covers a very large part of Columbia downtown.

Does the city or areas have palm trees?
@maximumdr Жыл бұрын
No i don’t see

Palm Trees don't grow in Columbia, naturally, but many people add them to their landscape. There are many on the State House grounds, especially Palmettos, the state tree.

Just a tip. If you're up on you editing, start displaying the street name as you are on them or at intersection, so we know where we are.

Too bad you passed by main street on the left and the state capital building on the right without turning your camera.

I wish the city council would fix the roads. They post a $131 million city budget and only spend $1.9 million on the streets. No wonder they look the way they look!

Our government officials are worried about putting extra money in their pockets than repairing the roads. Lucky SCDOT are fixing Malfunction Junction now.

They want extra money in their pockets than repairing the roads. The roads are worse where I lived at (North Columbia, Monticello Rd, N Main St). They just repairing the intersection of Monticello Rd and N Main St after 8-9 years due to old street cars tracks need to be removed before new pavement. As many times my relatives and I have to do repairs on vehicles and tire’s because of that. The same thing our government especially SCDOT don’t want to reimburse residents for vehicle repairs

The roads are awful, but most are state maintained.

A beautiful way to have ended this video would be start at the north end of Main Street and end in front of the Capitol building. You went by main twice in this video but never showed it. Not good.
