When the Columbia name and trademark is used on a product, Columbia is telling outdoor enthusiasts the product they buy will live up to the quality and performance standards they have come to expect from Columbia Sportswear.
Along with success comes counterfeits, and Columbia Sportswear is no exception. Their products are frequently and openly counterfeited.
On just one China website, there are dozens of counterfeit Columbia Sportswear jackets, openly advertised as "fake Columbia Jackets" and "replica Columbia Jackets" with quantity discounts starting at 50 units, and in dozens of styles and colors. The counterfeit jackets had retail tags and displayed the Columbia trademark. These counterfeit jackets find their way to global marketplace websites and auction websites such as eBay, and by extension, unsuspecting buyers.
The "waterproof breathable" "Columbia" jacket you see for sale on a website may look real, but you are likely to notice a big difference the first time you wear it in the rain!
At best, counterfeit workmanship and materials are sub-standard; at worst they can be dangerous. Many types of adhesives, metals and other substances are not intended for use with consumer products, but consumer safety is far from the minds of counterfeiters who simply make lookalike products at minimal cost.

It always makes me wonder why these fake companies go to these lengths to produce fake garments, they’ve clearly got the machinery and know how to produce the items, they should invest in better quality materials etc, create a legitimate business, then start making clothes under their own label and that’s it, a 100% legal company and they’d sell the items for a lot more than their fakes, it just seems to me such a lot of hassle to go through to make a fake, make a real instead 🤷🏻‍♂️

Because it takes a long time and a lot of money to build and market a brand as well as earning a good reputation. These guys make a quick buck off of the established name. No hard work or huge financial outlay necessary. Unfortunately there's always going to be a market for this stuff because there's a lot of people who value image over actual quality.

I recommend reading the book "Gomorrha" or Roberto Saviano. That fake stuff is mostly result of gray business and globalization. e.g.: a Textile company catches an order - "creating 10000 jackets" - well, the company produces that 10000 jackets.... and produces another 40.000 jackets for an alternative destribution process...

Another difference in this video was the Columbia lettering on upper left chest. Maybe coincidence - lettering was Printed on the fakes vs embroidered on the authentic. Is this a difference, or perhaps Printed lettering is used for Columbia Outlet products?

yes they do. I have seen several original which deploy Ideal zippers

I have 2 Columbia jackets the same model. Older use YKK, which not have any issue during the years of usage. But a new one have Ideal, which stuck and bad work from the first usage.

@@barratansey152 Where I am from it is seen as stuff you get at Ross or Marshalls. Something equivalent to Nautica or other like brands. Honestly, probably more to do with it not being hype rather than a reflection of quality.
