It's been a while. Thanks for sharing more fun. Broken rod scene was just like my grandson landing his first chinook this fall, a little too much help from an excited Dad and uncle.

I have to say that I had an epic day catching with David and Brian! The only bummer was the pole casualty and the day went by really fast because all we were doing is reeling in fish. I texted David from my boat when I was trolling and not getting any bites and asked if he was still doing trips this late in the year because I had to work straight through the fall season repairing and painting a building before winter. He said he had a place he could take me to catch fish and he picked a day that the weather was great and brought Brian after my friend couldn’t go at the last minute to help. I learned so much about salmon fishing and got to catch more fish in one day than I have in 2 years of fishing in the area. I’m going to go again in the spring to learn another area from him and I can’t wait. I highly recommend David Pyle! After watching him on the KZbin for a couple years it was a treat to go fishing with him. I spent hours watching the KZbin trying to learn as much as I could and I was amazed how much more there was to learn and especially hands-on. If you are wanting to go on a guided trip and learn to salmon fish like a pro book a trip with David. Thanks David and Brian!

Divid Pyle your the best “King of the willemette” My success is because of you. Here’s my tips to share with everyone thrilling offset hole on your pro troll to the right hand side and the other thing I did two years ago was I got a paddle that told me the river speed no matter how fast I was going speed overground, what I do is I troll .05 through 1.2 mile an hour river speed and I use 16 to 20 ounces of weight to find the bottom

@@DavidPyle Don't be so hard on yourself. I replayed that bit and it didn't even look that there was that much preassure on the rod. I Just started building rods and figured out the expensive blanks are a bit of a catch 22 for boat rods. The manufactures use higher tensil strength carbon, allowing them to make a thinner walled an thus lighter, more resposive rod. The downside to this thin wall is that they are far less durable than the thicker "lower modulus" blanks. PS: If you have an broken rods sitting around that cant be warrantied I would love to snag them from you because I can turn the blank remnants into cork reamers, thanks.

Thank you for your comments. Darn, I threw that rod in the garbage a few days ago or I'd give it to you. It's been a long time since I've had a rod break and it really shocked me. Goes to show that I put a lot of demand on my equipment and it's really held up. B10 is especially demanding due to hover fishing in a large crowd. You have to fight some feisty salmon in really fast moving current yet keep your boat in place rather than drift out to fight the fish. Absolutely insane how much force is put on your equipment in order to keep fish from running into the boat 40 feet behind. Some days we were at the B10 line with boats almost rod tip to rod tip.

Aaron, it's an out of production color that he says can be found on eBay. It hooked 3 fish and one drive by. That might have been matched by Hot Lava which lit up but I had to take it out of the water because the leader was frayed. I didn't want to lose that superbait. Also, Seahawk landed a jack and one lost fish. It was a good day but I think Brian's lure was really hot.

He wasn’t doing anything wrong when the rod broke. My guess is it somehow got weakened at that point, maybe something leaned against, or moving it from the truck to the boat, or at some point something caused a weak area. It’s also possible it came that way from the factory. One thing I’ve found is if you don’t want any of your gear lost or damaged then don’t leave the house. Great video and thank you

Rods take a lot of abuse and we're fighting some big fish. If there are any weaknesses, they will be exposed during the fall salmon season.

Yeah, the clicker is irritating but it alerts me to how the drag is performing while someone is fighting a fish. I don't always have my eyes on the rod & reel during the fight because I'm retrieving the net, reeling in other rods, watching for other boat traffic, looking at the position of the fish in relation to the boat and managing the kicker. Once everything is settled, the clicker doesn't matter so much but there's certainly a lot of thing on my mind (including my cameras).
