My parents were married, and my dad always provided for us but he pressed me about getting my education and being able to be self-sufficient because that's also just part of being an adult and survival. And I get it as an adult because my mom is extremely dependent on my step dad now financially especially since she's in her 60s because of her line of work. her line of work would not provide a good life for her. On the other hand, my job and what I earn along with my degrees and certifications - should my husband and I split right now, I can live alone and support myself and be just fine.

I grew up in a two parent household with parents celebrating their 48th wedding anniversary next month. I have six siblings - three brothers and three sisters. We know how to love, communicate and all have successful careers. I have personally done self reflection and the work necessary to continue to evolve in this human experience we call life. I want a partner not a dependent- someone who we take care and serve each other. We operate in reciprocity. Painting all people or black woman in the same light is ignorant and may leave some missing out on their blessing.
