Saturday 17th February running the Colwick parkrun
214th parkrun and 1st at Colwick Country Park.
Bit of a damp morning, but somewhat warmer than expected,
but after a lot of rain recently, there were one or two very large puddles to avoid/run through and extremely slippery off the path. Legs felt heavy and struggled to keep the pace going,
Official finishing time of 20:40
17th placed finisher out of 427 and 3rd in the 40-44 age group
Fastest time this year is 19:39 ( • Yarborough leisure cen... )
My PB remains at Clumber Park parkrun 19:28 ( • Clumber Park, parkrun ... )

Enjoyed your sprint and well done for hanging in there.. 2nd to 3rd mile not easy looking at the undulations.

Cheers ! I started too far back again which made me work harder getting through the pack on the first mile, but the 2nd mile was quite decent. Not sure what happened during the 3rd, it felt a lot harder than I would've liked. I had a heavy leg session on Tuesday at the gym, so that probably didn't help!

Great run Matt. You took a lot of scalps in the first half mile. Loved the sprint the other bloke must have thought he had you🤣

Cheers Jeff, though I think I should probably have started a bit closer to the front (again) He nearly got away with it too, didn't realise the finish was so close!

Hey there! It is a nice park to run round, shame the sun didn't come out though. Should have probably gone quicker had I started a bit closer to the front of the pack. Nice close finish !

Yes, if there are many participants in the race, the starting position can significantly affect the final result.

Thank you! Yeah, it was a nice course to run round, going try and go back later in the year when it's warmer, and not so damp underfoot!

Progressively upward most of the time but still a great run and time considering... Fastest sprint time I've seen you finish with 🙂 That poor divil wasn't finishing ahead of you...

I'd say it was a reasonable time rather than a good one, over a minute slower than I ran at Yarborough with a similar amount of climb 3 weeks ago. The finish line came up a lot sooner than expected, so he almost got away with it!

Interesting choice of footwear. How do you find them? I got suckered into that "deal" on sportshoes and grabbed a pair, thinking "me go fast, carbon plate!" but found them to be bricks, with no pop at all. Almost an anti-super shoe.

Yeah, Sportshoes deal too. I found the very firm and the plate very stiff initially, now after running 200+ miles in them, they are still very firm, but the plate feels like it has a bit more flex in it now, when running at steady paces (7:00min/mile and slower) I don't think there is much benefit, but going really fast (sub 6:10min/mile) then I can feel some extra pop from them. Though, I have found that the upper on both shoes has started to give on the side near the big toe/foot joint, that will need stitching back together !

@@MattClarry Interesting, I'll give them a few more spins. When I tried them, I was doing a threshold session (5:50min/mile) and seemed to work *much* harder than I did in my speed 3's to attain the same pace. Obviously physiology/conditions vary day-to-day, but I blamed the shoes for my increased effort. We shall see...
