Hey civdiv, for my history class in school we’re supposed to do a project where we talk about important items throughout history and their effect on the world, and I’m writing about the importance of nutrition and food of soldiers during times of war and how entire military campaigns can fail due to the basis of a underfed army. If you don’t mind me asking what is the food like at the front? Do you have a variety of foods ranging from local to government issued? Or do you mostly consume rations ? How do you stay well fed in conditions like these?
@CivDivКүн бұрын
Hey first of all thank you for donating to our team!! And yeah the food was a difficult problem at the start of the war, eating canned foods, but since then, the whole Ukrainian people united with volunteer programs and started donating tons of rations to soldiers in the front, as well as the military having food products they will give to us including MRE’s. Nutrition isn’t so bad now that there are multivitamins readily available. Never had an issue getting my nutrition after the start of the war. The start we had problems getting protein, but in reality we jsut needed to diversify our tastes and preferences to get it (I.e. eating canned preserved meat products)

The tinkerer in me can't help but think "man, just add another cell in series with those batteries" in regards to all of those voltage issues hahaha.
@simonwidauer5753Күн бұрын
In theory, a good idea; the problem with that is that FPV electronics are rated to a certain voltage (most commonly 6s). If you'd add another cell without changing the whole setup, you'd probably end up frying the ESC or the flight controller. Not to mention that the motors are also tuned to a certain voltage range (their max rpm is directly proportional to the voltage (KV)). The real underlying issue is that FPV drones draw a lot of power (since they're optimized for speed and agility) therefore they need huge batteries for a relatively short flight time (compared to mavics which are optimized for efficiency and endurance). Of course, you could add a bigger battery, but then you'd have to sacrifice payload capacity, agility or speed. Also, since a bigger battery weighs more, there would be an even higher amp draw. Which would then again shorten flight time. So to conclude: there is a sweet spot for battery size, and I'm sure @CivDiv and his team are working very hard to hit that sweet spot. Greetings from an FPV hobbyist :)) Edit: Sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes, I'm not a native speaker

Thank you for helping Ukraine!! 🇺🇦 Just wondering, in 30:30 how is the drone still controllable presumably without signal (indicated by RXLOSS in the OSD)?
@davidcoelho8773Күн бұрын
I thought about it and came to my own hypothesis that it may be because the TX is transmitting the info to the repeater drone which then gets relayed to the fpv drone. So I asked ChatGPT (ik, not a 100% reliable source but wnated to have an idea) and got this answer: How Repeater Setups Work In a relay or repeater configuration: 1. The transmitter (TX) sends the control signal to the repeater drone. 2. The repeater drone receives this signal and retransmits it to the FPV drone. 3. Similarly, telemetry data from the FPV drone is relayed back to the transmitter via the repeater. --- Causes of RXLOSS in a Repeater Setup 1. Telemetry Signal Disruption: RXLOSS on the OSD is typically triggered by a loss of telemetry data, not necessarily the control link. If the telemetry signal from the FPV drone back to the transmitter is interrupted or delayed by the repeater, the OSD may display RXLOSS even though the control signal is still being relayed correctly. 2. Repeater Latency: The repeater introduces a slight delay in signal transmission and reception. If the flight controller or OSD interprets this delay as a signal drop, it might trigger RXLOSS. 3. Inconsistent Signal Quality: If the repeater experiences interference, low power, or weak connectivity to the FPV drone, the telemetry link might become unstable. Even though the drone remains controllable, RXLOSS may appear due to a poor telemetry signal. 4. Mismatched Signal Reporting: The flight controller on the FPV drone might not be aware of the repeater's presence and could interpret the indirect telemetry path as a connection issue. 5. Telemetry Feedback Path: If the telemetry from the FPV drone does not properly reach the transmitter (e.g., due to a repeater misconfiguration), the OSD will show RXLOSS even though the repeater maintains the control link.

i wonder why we see so many fibre drones in kamikaze roles, but wouldnt bomber drones be awesome for fibre since they are reusable so it saves a lot of battery life for more runs?
@gamlamanКүн бұрын
They use super thin (and relatively cheap) fibre optic cables to send input to the drone and for the drone to send video back, but fiber optic cables use pulses of light to send data, not electricity. For your idea you'd have to send through an electric current, to send enough electric current to power a drone you'd need two metal cables with isolation, that would probably be way too heavy.
@FlyingThunderКүн бұрын
@@gamlaman im not talking about sending power through the cable, just sending power because youre saving on the drones antenna - fibre optic uses almost no power compared to long distance radio AFAIK
@gamlamanКүн бұрын
@@FlyingThunder Ah, gotcha. I think the propellers take a lot more power than the antenna, though. Though the main advantage of the fiber optic cables is that it is resistant to jamming, so it might help with that. The cable might snag on trees and stuff, though, which would probably be a bigger problem for a bomber than it is for a kamikaze drone on a one way trip. Still, it's a good idea.

Hey, I’ve noticed that the military often uses analog FPVs for their drones. From my experience, digital drones offer much better visibility and signal quality-you can fly up to 10 km with line of sight and around 5 km even with obstacles(with just googles). Plus, with digital systems, there wouldn’t be a need for a separate drone just for signal, and spotting enemies would be much easier. A year ago, the choice might have been about cost, but now the price gap between analog and digital setups (especially on the used market) has narrowed significantly. Do you know why analog is still preferred?
