Patriotic Realist - except that will really scratch up your feed ramps/barrel. I rather just buy a bunch of dummy rounds (they’re honestly pretty cheap when you buy them in any decent quantity)

Joshua Bressel - true, but then you gota always make sure you have enough, I rather buy more then I really need so I don’t have to fret about always finding them or reloading mags every time. Hey, this is great advice. Learning skills not drills. In my old unit we used to do a "box of mags" session. Basically take all your mags, load them full with live rounds, randomly put spent rounds in and load out your entire kit - then go to the shoot house or do hills. All about finishing. Used to drive guys nuts.

I keep bad, unreliable mags, for just this reason. Ive tried for years, to sabotage mags to make them malfunction occasionally, but never managed to get it right. The best Ive gotten is an old aluminum mag that I dented with some brass knuckles. It would malfunction about every 5 - 20 rounds. On a side note: a kinda proud moment for me, was when I cleared a double feed in a pistol and finished the drill under time and didn't even know Id done it. It felt just like a reload.

Great drills! I am not a fan of the 1R1 drills since people ingrain that into muscle memory and when a malfunction happens at any other point they’ll hesitate. I’m at fault for that as well. These drills create an unknown that will allow you to build a better reaction time to issues. Good on ya.

Great drill and training. But I fail to understand one thing. Why does the shooter immediately after the last shot place the rifle on safe. You’ve just been involved in a shootout, why not wait a minute, look around assess situation ( bad guy might not be neutralized ) before putting the rifle on safe. I’m a retired cop, did 31 years, we never trained to immediately put the rifle on safe. We only put the rifle on safe if we were going to move or if we were sure no other threats were around and scene was secured.
