Sayoc is my favorite combatives system by far, but I don't have a training group in my area at the moment, so working with a PTK group in the meantime. I carry a blade more often than a firearm. I work on a military base and the Command doesn't allow concealed carry these days - but a blade under 5" isn't considered a weapon in these parts, and the Sayoc system makes good use of short blades. All that to say, it's a very practical system, as you're generally going to have or encounter a shorter blade on the street anyway.

It's great to hear that you're practicing with the Sayoc system! Finding a training group can be tough, but adapting with PTK is a smart move. Keep honing those skills!

It’s sad that Dom won’t give any credit or recognition to perhaps the best modern edged weapons instructors and subject matter experts alive right now….Michael Janich. If you really want to learn edged weapon skills and counter blade skills, you are doing yourself wrong by not check Janich out. Martial Blade Concepts. Dom has trained with Mike, it’s sad he won’t give him any mention.

I had the good fortune to train with Mike Janich/MBC in the early 2000’s. Mike is an excellent instructor and innovator. Like firearms and combatives, I believe that if you can, train with a variety of instructors and disciplines and find out what works best for you. That being said, you couldn’t get a better foundation in knife skills than MBC. A great way to get started is Martial Blade Camp in Colorado.

absolutely bullshit...how about a aggressive issue in an airport wen there is no blade just a sharp object...a blade is useless against a larger weapon bat or stick

Thank you grand master of the keyboard warriors. I’ll be sure to listen to the man in his moms basement over the DEVGRU SEAL.

You didn’t watch the whole video did you? In that situation, it would probably be better to have both your hands free to be able to grab or manipulate the hand that is holding the weapon unless you have a weapon with more reach.
