Good episode. Good casting of Robert Crawford, Jr., since he studied French through French VII...got to use it. He plays another Frenchman in Combat Season 2, Episode 23...Silent Cry.

You may think this series is about combat, actually if you pay attention, it is about humanity shown through this squad of brave men. Everyone down to the sometimes difficult Kirby show what it means to be a real man. Not just tough and strong, but with big hearts. They all have compassion on those in need even extending it to their enemies. They really made an accurate show that has never been matched. No, not bloody like the real thing, but having known many Veterans I can say confidently that the average US veteran could identify with one or more of these men. The media paints them as killers, but though they may see action, they seem to retain that decency that we as Americans have had handed down to us through our history. No we aren't a perfect people, but America is definitely the most compassionate nation on earth. We often rebuild nations of our enemies after we defeat them(Japan for one) and we show compassion by supporting so many charities around the world that help the poor and unfortunate that would otherwise perish without assistance. Next time you see a movie or hear the media insult our military men/women, remember, they are willing to do what most of us are not and they do it so that we all can enjoy freedom. And the men/women I have met through the years with the biggest hearts were those who served in the military. They have seen things I have not. To them all the best.

I am a combat veteran and I agree with what you said. We are one of the most compassionate people in the planet we Americans. My hometown is Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and the steel made their rebuilt Europe Japan the Pacific Rim along with every major building Endeavor in this country from the Empire State Building to the Golden Gate Bridge to the Tennessee Valley Authority to the big three in Detroit General Motors Ford Lincoln Mercury and Chrysler. We are the most benevolent and Powerful Nation the world has ever seen for a reason. That reason being it was our destiny given to us by God. So when I hear those that say We Shouldn't Be Here There and Everywhere in the world happened everybody we should be helping ourselves, I respond with what do you wear the most powerful and benevolent Nation the world has known it is an obligation responsibility for you to help those less fortunate and those who ask for the help. And that folks it's what separates us Americans for the rest of this planet

With a little more budget and an extra hour of film time this episode would have made an excellent movie. Very well done, with intricate yet believable plot/storyline. Combat was just plain Great!

Considering state-of-the-art in radar antennas of that era why didn't they look for the big rotating bedsprings - a sure giveaway of the location since transmission lines and waveguides of that time were crude and short compared to now.

Good episode but totally unrealistic. By this time in 1944 the Luftwaffe was ineffective. Allies had total air superiority. Maybe if this had been 1942 or something... Best line of this episode: "Sarge, Krauts!, we gotta pull outta here!"
