Mad respect for trying to stretch yourself and push for the next step during the tournament even if it didn'twork out. Sure you might have been more likely to podium playing it safe, but I'll admire a striving that fails more.

Thanks for the commentary. I liked the explanation and thoughts you had about the various cuts and successes. How do you feel about your cutting sword? Do you feel like you have the "right" longsword for you? Also, you looked badass with the arming sword - great cuts ;)

My longsword is an angus trim type XVIa.4. I love it, very much, but recently I’ve wanted to go with something a little shorter. But I really do love the sword.

You did great all around and an honor to compete along side yourself and the other great cutters there! And yeah I cut better with a single hander as well. I think that's from my Chinese martial arts background and lots of Dao use.

What's your longsword here and how are you liking it for cutting?

I cut with an Angus Trim type XVIa.4 longsword. I love it. I love it so much in fact that I’ve cut with it in tournaments exclusively for several years. :)

Good job and nice commentary. I would urge one of my old students against that little stutter step you do right before you cut, BUT I get you are getting your distance corrected and YOU seem to have little problems because of it. Again, nice work. This sport needs a uniform - something ostentatious and unnecessary like a feathered hat and an ascot or something equally as ridiculous. Maybe a small quarter cape across the shoulder and stocking pants. Fun.

I agree with all of that. I’m still trying to work out some of the little nervous habits in the cuts. In some of my older videos you can see a finger flick that I used to do, and I had to work really hard to stop doing it. Thank you for your feedback.

They slip off my shoulders, or if I tighten them not to slip they make me uncomfortable when trying to move my sword. The pressure on my traps feels restrictive, and that’s not what I want to focus on when cutting. But yeah anyway…
