Fin Lay : Agreed. In fact it would be so much better without the music as a good tradesman or do it yourselfer is good to watch with only his speaking or the sound of his work or tools to hear. Also might have been good if he had a mike on him as his voice sounds strange due to distance from the mike.

Great video. Used Silent coat before - good stuff. One thing to add is that if you van is fitted with seatbelt pretensioners don’t fill the cavity that houses the seatbelt assembly with wool/foam insulation. Potential fire risk in a crash. T5’s don’t have pretensioners as you guys know but I thought I’d mention it in case any of your viewers are doing different vans. Keep the vids coming!

I've found that the sound deadening works great, but I abide by the 25% rule; after that it decreases the decibel level but it does not actually deaden the van any further. After the 25% I move over to sound insulating foam - it's lighter, does not deaden but that is already achieved - and decreases the db levels.

Once you add the fiber insulation to the back of the foil you remove it’s radiant properties making it useless except as a vapor barrier. Best to use foam spray and you can spray into cavities. You can’t beat foam for sound and thermal insulation. Check out the costs too.

I spent most of this winter in a completely uninsulated van. Granted, temps in my area usually don't drop much below 4C, but, with a good sleeping bag, it's managable. Only reason I'd need insulation is for road noise during those times I'm "forced" to sleep on a relatively busy street (rather not wear earplugs).
@dirknoom4389
@dirknoom4389 5 жыл бұрын
You might want to consider wearing external ear protection. It limits your sleeping positions a bit, but it's more comfortable and easier to take on and off than earplugs. I find i t's usually better than trying to sleep with sound in the background.

Just a heads up I put insulation in my van that didn't have any, I had carpeted walls. Added insulation for the summer and all it did was change the time the van is hot. You don’t need to sound deaden the floor. If its got corrugations that provides rigidity and therefore tempers vibration and is sound deadened anyway. You only need to sound deaden large panels Think of old cars; at certain speeds the whole bonnet would resonate.

i have to agree. I think its good advice to put the moisture barrier as the most inner layer to stop moisture from reaching your insulating layers.This will stop the moisture reaching the outer/colder layers where it would condense and cause water in the bottom the cavity - basically avoiding what he said at the start if the video. i can't understand why these professionals don't follow basic principles for this.
@chrishoulding5065
@chrishoulding5065 5 жыл бұрын
@@athertop So what happens when you get moisture behind the vapour barrier which I believe would be bound to occur at some point however well you think you have done it. It would be trapped and have nowhere to go and rot your van. Ventilation is the key to keeping moisture from condensing and trying to seal a van up is counterproductive. think these videos are really professional and make practical sense but at the end of the day its your vehicle and your choice but just because someone has a different opinion it doesn't make it invalid or unprofessional.

About to deaden/insulate aT5 as a day van. From other videos it seems you are better using a roller to guarantee the Silent Coat is fully bonded to the panels instead of just using hand pressure. Certainly any vehicles I have done in the past I have used a roller. Very informative series of videos, thanks, have subscribed.

Thank you for your kind words. We have used rollers in the past and still do for tricky areas but the adhesive is so good on the silent coat it really isn't necessary.

Do you insulate the ceiling as well? I'm thinking of boiling hot days camping out in the sun.

Sound Deadening offer a bundle that consists of 7.5sqm of silent coat and 20sqm of van liner...your informative video shows that the silent coat and van liner go on the outside panels of the van - and then followed by thermal fleece. So why are the quantities so different? Why would I need so much more van liner??? Help please :-)

Hello 👋 love the insulation! I want to do exactly the same in my van but I would like to carpet line. Straight on top! Would this work? Also taking in consideration I want to try and carpet line straight on top do I need another vapour barrier on top? Say just some of that bubble wrap stuff? Any help is greatly appreciated! I know you must be super busy! 😊

Heavy rain drops over head are horrible from trees ,and lines the ceiling is most important for sound proof.

Very nice work. How do you insulate and sound deaden a van that has windows? I am going to turn my Berlingo into a campervan but it has windows. It's not a panel van.

Remove all interior plastic trim such as wall, ceiling and door cards. Apply sound deadening and insulation where possible.

@@CombeValleyCampers Thank you for the super swift reply. What do you recommend I put on the inside of the windows? I was thinking of sealing over some of the windows from the inside. Thanks

Thanks for these great videos! Does it matter whether you put the fleece in first and then cover it with the thermal liner?

When would you install electrics? Would you not pre install cables before the insulation?
