This machine by Central Machinery (Harbor Freight) has been around for awhile, but I finally picked one up for my garage. If you don't have the room for larger, separate machines, this 3-in-1 does the trick for the home hobbyist. It's a press brake, shear and slip roll all in one. It can handle up to 20 gauge steel and 18 gauge aluminum, which should suffice for most light fab projects. The press brake is a finger brake as well, so you can make boxes with it. The slip roll also has three different sized grooves for bending round stock.
One thing that I didn't go over in the video is the depth stop mechanism that comes with it. There are two round bars and piece of angle that connects between them. You can attach this to the rear of the machine and use it to set the depth of your cut. This would be helpful if you're cutting multiple pieces that are the same depth, or if you're cutting a wider piece and want to make sure that it's square in the device.
Don't forget to align and grease the machine prior to use!

I have had this same machine for about 6 years, and I have 2 things to suggest. 1st, there is a single bolt holding on the hub that the handle sits in. It's an Allen screw, and it comes loose WAY too often. Loctite that bad boy and you WILL thank yourself. Second, my hold downs are not up to the task, so I always keep a piece of 2x4 and a C clamp handy and lock down the left hand side of the work when making long cuts. Not a huge deal, and it gives me much cleaner and straighter cuts. All in all, I would purchase this machine again, especially now that I have figured out it's limitations. Definitely worth the money.

Great demo on this man. Really nice job explaining everything and good tips too. Thanks for sharing. I build guitar amplifiers in unique things like empty antique radio shells, old TVs, ammo cans, etc and sometimes need to fabricate my own aluminum chassis for custom builds. I’ve got some tools to get by but this all in one would be very helpful.

Hmmm. Got one of these about 16 years ago for one stainless steel sculpture project, never really used it much again. (The shear DOES NOT like 22 ga stainless sheet!) It sat on the end of a 4x8 plywood workbench for a few years until I moved, now been sitting unused in the floor of my new workshop for about 13 years because I don't have a stand. Need one that can be rolled out of the way when not in use. The shipping weight is listed as 321lbs... I would be extremely concerned about having that much weight on such a narrow base without it being bolted to the floor. Looks waaaaay top heavy! Going to watch your other vid on how you did the base. I noticed when you used the brake part that the whole thing rocked a little bit right at 8:01. Don't knock that thing over onto that great car! Or anyone's tender lil toes! Incidentally I have had one of the little horizontal/vertical metal cutting band saws like they sell at Harbor Freight for over 25 years, and it is the best money I ever spent. I got mine at ENCO, but it is exactly the same model. The plastic wheels mounted in the thin sheet metal legs are pure crap; I mounted mine on a rolling plywood base with locking wheels that I built for it, but the option to use it like vertical band saw with the table on is glorious!!!!

Great video, and thank you. I am looking at purchasing that unit. I, myself, though would not have anything in the way of the handle swing. That would drive me NUTS. I understand you are trying to make a nice tight package with the shrinker and stretcher, but being in the way is a no go for me. Cheers

@RaybuckAutoBodyParts
@RaybuckAutoBodyParts 3 жыл бұрын
It is huge, but the 40" version will be nice to have for larger projects. The biggest issue is the weight. I used an engine lift to set it on the stand that I made.

Thanks for the great intro, just wondered the bend was not 90 degree, can that be adjusted ?
@RaybuckAutoBodyParts
@RaybuckAutoBodyParts 3 жыл бұрын
This unit only provides for a 90 degree bend. You could get a more shallow angle by not pressing down all the way, but it's not precise. If you need a precise angle that's less than 90 degrees, you may want to get a stand-alone brake.

I was given a 3 and 1 missing a lot of stuff. for one the arms that lower and raise the cutter are missing. I was debating if I want to make them and get this working or not BUT can you tell me if when you shear metal does one side of the shear come down before the other. I need to know if I would make both arms the same length. Appreciate the information. I have a brake but I am also missing the one roller with the gear drive. Thanks for info.
@RaybuckAutoBodyParts
@RaybuckAutoBodyParts 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply on this. The shear blade is on a slight angle, but the overall mechanism will raise/lower evenly. You can use one or two arms. Having two arms just gives you more leverage for cutting, etc. If making two arms, I would make them the same length.

is the shear adjustable for different height to cut wire or just one height?
@RaybuckAutoBodyParts
@RaybuckAutoBodyParts 3 жыл бұрын
it's not adjustable for height/thickness/gauge. It says that it will accept up to 20ga steel and I agree with that. I cut a piece of 20ga steel with it and it took a lot of force to get it to cut. You can fit 18ga in the opening, but I think you may break part of the tool if you try to cut steel of that thickness.

Generally not any more unless you get a 15% no restrictions one. They have started expanding the list of brands they exclude and now include Central Machine. Best bet is open a Harbor Freight credit account for a 10% discount if you don’t have one. This can be stacked with a 15% no restrictions, or in January there’s a 10% credit if you pay with the HF credit and have Inside Track membership.

Depends on the size of your garage and how much fab work you do. I have some space, and I made a stand that is mobile, so it's not too bad to store it. I don't do a ton to fab work, but for the little that I do this machine is definitely worth it. Being able to get clean, straight cuts, and crisp bends made it worth every penny for me.
