good use of the resources you had at hand to get the combine away from the header

Guys, I know you drag a lot of stuff to the field, but a fuel trailer with 500 gallons of treated fire retardant water might be a big help..
@toledojeeper2932 Жыл бұрын
Once that water hits the chaff and dust it’s all over no matter how much water you have . I know from experience . Lost our combine when water kicked up the chaff on the feeder house and the whole thing just exploded into a fireball . Best thing to do is a good cleaning everyday and check all bearings and belts .
@hiimmarshmallow1222 Жыл бұрын
@@toledojeeper2932yep once that chaff goes its over. Finished another harvest this year with no issues due to cleaning. Always start the day with cleaning belts and blowing off the combine. Best we can do.
@toledojeeper2932 Жыл бұрын
@@hiimmarshmallow1222 ..Yep .. that chaff and dust is some crazy stuff . I see why those large elevators have so many explosions. Nice thing was we got a new combine out of it . JD dealer brought it out the next day and helped us most of the day to set it up .
@hiimmarshmallow1222 Жыл бұрын
@@toledojeeper2932 Yep those elevators are standing dynamite sadly. But I bet it was a relief having that combine there the next day. Luckily we had good weather here in MN but the drought was rough on the beans here.

Nice! Yeah, its for sure fun to operate these things. Around here, our view is especially good, but the hills can be a bit nerve racking. Today i was sliding a half million dollar machine along a sidewall of a hill. Was scary but fun! Glad you enjoy watching!

We've burned 150 acres of standing wheat when our combine caught on fire. Would've only burned 15 acres if we had a disk. Water doesn't do anything iron is the only way to stop a fire

Those are such expensive machines that someone should design a built in fire suppression system and possibly even heat sensors in and around the machine.
@raydemos1181 Жыл бұрын
I would rig my own fire suppression system up using Halon similar to what yachts use, use one that has a temp activated sensor., locate them in fire sensitive area on the combine

For as much as combines cost and for as little they get used each year it seems to me you guys would be $$ ahead by using custom harvesters. Oh, I know combining is way fun but sometimes you have remember your running a business & the bottom line is the end goal. BUT, what do I know? I'm just a simple cave man. !
@TrevorStruthers Жыл бұрын
My dad does what you suggest. Most farmers don’t wanna rely on the whim of another person to bring in their crops. Unforeseen things tend to happen that are out of our control when it comes to other people cutting for you.
@traxxx1522 Жыл бұрын
Was the fire department called? You handled the situation well but anytime you smell burning or see smoke the first thing you should do is call the fire department. Trust me, the firefighters would much rather be called and not be needed than show up late to a more serious fire because the farmer thought he could control it himself. Seen too many combine fires in my county this year because of over confident farmers. Great save, but please take this into consideration.
@TrevorStruthers Жыл бұрын
Yeah they were called, but we were 20 miles from where the volunteer firefighters trucks were dispatched from. All unpaid volunteers fight fires around here. Most crews have one or two out there though. Everyones busy during harvest, harvesting.
