This Byakuya can basically get you to death once he gets a knockdown, as shown in videos before this match. It stinks to watch this happen so I wasn't rooting for him. But I think we have reached a time where United States and Japan are closer in skill level so I think hating on Japan is bad. It used to be that Japan dominantly won anything when they traveled but now it isn't guaranteed. I also knew Redblade from before he became a big name and it is crazy to see how far he has come in like a year. He was mostly playing locals until having a big success at NEC (Northeast Championships) when this version of the game was just coming to United States.

This was the game that I enjoyed the most during combo breaker. Since the first time I saw this Byakuya player I was like "how is that character even legal?" and the chat and the rest of the people were like "it's ok that character is not even top... that guy is just good..." He won the tournament but I still think that is cheap... after the tournament they make an exhibition, Sajam picked this character and completely bodied his opponent in a very similar way... (He who is not even a pro player). In any other game a character that can do that would be considered cheap and probably be banned or everyone else would be playing just this character.

Believe it or not, I'd argue that Wagner is the cheaper character. Byakuya is almost never plus unless he gets a knockdown, his mixup options leave gaps and/or are punishable, and he has poor defensive options. His whole gimmick is really only practical if he scores a hit or takes a big risk. On defense, Redblade had opportunities to press buttons or DP, but he chose not to because Clearlamp was outplaying him. On the other hand, Wagnr can gaplessly perform chip damage and overheads with sword install, she gets super armor and better frame advantage with shield install, and she can get both of these installs and become plus 9 with 22C. Even without install, She has Dps, 5 frames, multiple anti-airs, good normals to OS with, and above average rebeats. Clearlamp was willing to press buttons, but there were many situations when he either couldn't without getting hit, or couldn't at all. In other Games Byakuya wouldn't work nearly as well unless he retained unist's mechanics and conventions. Characters with poor frame data and weak reversals generally don't trend up.

If you play the game, you would know that Wagner is cheaper (Wagner main btw) I hate it when I go against a Byakuya that mashes or actually knows what they're doing, but you can take your opponents' health down in fourths with the easiest combos as Wagner. You get stupid fast normals, a force function that is always safe on block, and some of the best high/ low mixups in the game bound to simple buttons.
