Come and join me as I explore new work by Georg Baselitz at White Cube Bermondsey. Baselitz is now 86 but has continued to produce an epic output. This exhibition, entitled 'A Confession of My Sins', includes huge paintings and smaller ink drawings on paper.
Further details can be found here: www.whitecube....

He's still wonderful - even at that ripe age. A lot of younger artists can't hold a candle to him. So vibrant and wonderful colour palette. Love the animals. And there ARE some that are right side up. They also work. Well done. May you long continue! M

Thank you so much for watching and yes - some the right way up. I thought the animals and how they link back to his childhood sketch books was particularly moving.

One of my absolute favourite galleries in London 😍 seen so many great shows over the years!

I agree - they have such a stellar line up artists that the shows are often amazing and it is always buzzy, without being rammed. I love the vibe that it seems quite a few people have come in off the street to see some art.

don't know a lot about Baselitz. presumably he paints the figures upside down otherwise he wouldn't achieve his loose scribbly style (which I do love and is more difficult to achieve than one would think) if he painted them upright and turned the canvas around? ultimately, they work

He painted them upside down as opposed to just hanging them upside down, which is interesting in itself. The drawings were really powerful - almost blood splattered in feel. Thank you, as always, for watching.

He doesn't live far from my art-gallery = far enough, thank God. How does one spell SCHEISSE in English!?

Folks who don’t like this because they think it’s easy to do know fark all about painting frankly. I LOVE these pieces: absolute mastery of his process and materials, gorgeously nuanced concords of colour and the difficult production of beauty with unnatural proportions. And the draughtsman shit really shines in pieces like Blue eyed deer. The worst I can say about these is that they’re on predictable conceptual ground, but who cares when the actual work is so lush, honest and elegant. Horrible soundtrack though my man.

Thanks for watching and for your comments - really interesting as he is an artist I have only engaged with briefly. I have started saying, with the soundtrack, please put your own music on! I would have definitely put on Bowie (a fan) if it wasn't for copyright.

I did enjoy the new work... after I turned the volume all the down on the horrible music you choose to score the video with.

Sorry about the music - I try to get it right but, from a couple of comments, clearly have not in this case. I would love to have put some Bowie on! I am glad you enjoyed the new works. An interesting article here from Waldemar Januszczak in the Times on this exhibition (sadly behind a paywall but you might be able to access) www.thetimes.co.uk/article/georg-baselitz-the-man-who-turned-art-upside-down-kdq8btkrm

Quite a few feel the same - I feel these later works are a bit more than that but certainly an artist that splits opinion.

Shame on you: Over all is Josef Beuys. He alone is the King of German Art after 1945.

Ah - Joseph Beuys stands alone! I don't put him in the same category because his art is so different to the three I mentioned but, rest assured, the vlog loves Beuys and can't wait to cover him next time his work hits London.
