Don’t beat yourself up over the JK stuff. The discourse is applied too unevenly and inconsistently to be meaningful. I doubt Barbara Kingsolver has ever been asked to address Dickens’ raging racism and antisemitism even though Demon Copperhead is a big ol’ love letter to him. The “blackcent” she uses for the mixed-race characters made me deeply uncomfortable, though your mileage may vary. People still listen to Led Zep and Michael Jackson. Women especially have always had to make mental compromises in order to enjoy anything. On a fun note, I’m writing my Daisy Jones meets Midnight Library novel and three editors are already interested! Manifesting good things for me and you and everyone.

I really appreciate this comment and you are absolutely right. There are inconsistencies in this type of discourse everywhere and so much of mainstream media throughout the years falls into these criticisms. So so excited for you on your book! The premise sounds incredible and I would love to read it!!
