This is what cookouts sounded like before hip-hop. Lovely Day is an example of a perfect song. That doesn't mean that there aren't better songs; It just means that there's really nothing that could be done to this fantastic song to make it any better. The lyrics say what they need to say without being vague nor dense. The vocals convey the theme of the lyrics without any unnecessary flare. The composition is neither muddled nor minimalist. It's neither too long nor too short. It's just right, all around.

The beauty of Bill Withers is the simplicity of his songs. No complicated guitar riffs, just this really great funk sound that is irresistible. Good lyrics and fantastic vocals. His voice doesn’t need an entire band to cover up any flaws. It stands all on its own. He stood high on my list of artists along the likes of Stevie Wonder and my all time favourite Smokey Robinson.

Probably deep in my 20's, I was in high school in the mid 80's, so music took me down a different road. Best music ever. 💜💜 One of me and my babe's songs.

19 years old, Bill Withers has a lot of beautiful songs, but lovely day is my absolute favorite by him, it’s a feel good songs, React to: grandmas hands, my second favorite song by Bill Withers, also react to: when I’m kissing my love, ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone, until you use me up, lean on me, who is he and what is he to you

Back in the 90's my 3 teenage boys and I were shopping in Gainesville Florida. I looked up and said oh my lord boys do you know who that is?. Yeah mom, that's Bill Withers. Proud momma! He was gracious to talk with us a few minutes. He was so happy to know young people appreciated him and his music 🎶

I was a teenager in the early 2000's and because of my dad, I gathered a very eclectic music collection. I was just checking out R&B/Soul/Neo-Soul/Motown music and my Dad immediately goes, "You HAVE to check out Bill Withers." He told I probably heard his hits but suggested I check out his deep cuts. My dad leaned towards blues-blues rock and Funk but he said, "When I need some soul...I go RIGHT to Bill Withers." A couple of days later and go to him and im like, "Dad...oh my god...Bill Withers..." he just laughs and goes, "RIGHT?!" lol. Been a huge fan ever since and my soul/heart hurt when he passed.
