Nothing like a fresh dug potato, we ate them all summer growing up cooked whole and unpeeled. Loaded with butter and salt at the table and a raw cucumber salad. Now I raised my family on them too. I was taught to lay them out several weeks in a dry spot inside and if any are going to rot it will be then. Then I store them in the basement in whatever container is available. So similar plan but for a different reason. Enjoy, I’m enjoying mine without any pesticides.

I tried your roasted potato recipe after digging all my potatoes and carrots today and added fresh baby carrots, little onions, garlic and a couple of cut up sweet potatoes. It was sooooo good! Big hit with my family. Thank you!!!

Wonderful! What a beautiful harvest 😍 So glad for you that you got them in on time..❤ This reminds me of Ecclesiastes 11:6. Good work! 👏 I remember the first year I grew potatoes. I was so pleased. It was worth all the effort! You probably know by now that Charles Dowding does both No Dig and Dig with his potatoes, or at least he used to. He found the No Dig yielded more. I once followed another UK channel who also grow potatoes but in containers. This is how I grew mine and I found the yield to be so good. Their way was similar to Charles' in that they grew so no digging was necessary and they mounded up all the way to the top from the start. The horns took a little longer to surface but they found it meant the potato horns were less likely to be damaged. This is also how I decided to grow mine. So if you were ever wondering how they would fair in containers, provided they're given the irrigation they need and potato feed of some sort the yields are excellent!

In sweden we store them in wood ceates in cellar with air between the wooden boards and burlap on top. The crate never sits directly on the concrete floor the bottom of the crate is rised a few inches.

Potatoes are an incredibly rewarding crop. The intense heat+drought+armadillo, kept me from sowing a second crop on time. My seed potatoes , from the spring crop, are sprouting now, and I’m not really sure what to do.

I find all veggies like that, wrt final size. How close you plant them depends on how big you want the vegetable to grow. Beets and carrots are prime examples. You may want big ones or small ones depending on what you plan to do with them. For small pickling beets, plant them close. For large beets, space them out.

I've accidentally left potatoes in the ground and 1 of 2 things will happen - either 1 they do start growing on their own but the harvest is not as good or 2 the bugs get to them and destroy them. It might be where I live though (Scotland)

We grew potatoes in bags and harvested one the size of a gumball. They were from a good seed company. Maybe I was lazy about watering. I don't know.

I had a similar result the first time I grew potatoes vertically in lick-tubs. I think my issue was that I was growing a determinate variety. From my understanding now, there are two types of potato varieties: determinate and indeterminate. Indeterminate will continue to put off side shoots and grow more potatoes up the stem when layered with soil. Indeterminate only put off shoots at the level they were planted. So in my case, I had these big tall tubs at the end of the season with somewhat small plants on top, then noooo potatoes at all the whole way down the tub...til I got to the bottom. And there were only a handful of small ones. Every failure really does teach us something! I hope your next growing season is more successful. :)
