Lyrics!!! I was born on a Dublin street where the Royal drums did beat And those loving English feet they walked all over us Oh and every single every night when me da would come home tight He'd invite the neighbors out with this fine chorus Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra Come tell us how you slew them old Arabs two by two Like the Zulus they had spears and bows and arrows Oh, how you bravely faced one with your sixteen pounder gun And you frightened them poor natives to the marrow Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra Come let us hear you tell how you slammed the great Pernell And thought him well and truly persecuted Where are the smears and jeers that you loudly let us hear When our leaders of '16 were executed? Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra Oh the time is coming fast and I think those days are here When those English Johnny's heels will run before us Oh if there be a need then our kids will say 'godspeed' with a verse or two of singing this fine chorus Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra

These days, it's increasingly rare to find artists who haven't been corrupted by the system and don't just kiss up to it. However, I recently stumbled upon Seth Staton Watkins, and I'm not only captivated by his incredible vocal abilities and sound, but also by his humanity and activism for what's right. Such integrity is rare in today's world, where many artists seem to sell their souls to blend in with the corrupted system controlled by powerful lobbyists. I have two loves: Palestine and Ireland.

This is a pretty damn good version. I like how you didn't "modernize" the old lyrics in terms of how they change "da" and other words. The harmonizing chorus echoes a bit too much sometimes due to the effect but that effect is great on the solo verses. I think *The Maguire Brothers* have the best version. It's got that *oomf* even though the accent is lacking. The additional lyrics added in that version are a welcome addition too as they add other warcrimes to the list.
@Imyourhuckleberry0122 күн бұрын
That version was rubbish and distorts the true meaning behind song, for example who "slew Parnell" lol, and what has Derry got to do with the song?
@Guts-the-Berserker21 күн бұрын
@@Imyourhuckleberry01 Changing "Slander" to "Slew" is simply a figurative way of emphasizing what he endured. Referencing Derry, another focal point of Irish-British tension, particularly around events like Bloody Sunday (1972) during The Troubles is a great way of bridging the gap of the older Irish-British conflicts to the more recent ones. Most importantly the whole song emphasizes the righteous anger rather than just singing a song like so many others do.
@Imyourhuckleberry0121 күн бұрын
@@Guts-the-Berserker Parnell was screwing a married English woman ffs, thats why he was "slandered". The song has nothing to do with any troubles or Bloody Sunday (not any of the four Bloody Sundays) and not even the WOI it's just a social view of Dublin from 1928 to 1936 and the song is directed at a group of Irish people not the English / British people, did you not understand that, for example who do you think the Loving English feet are in the song? Go on have a guess...
@Guts-the-Berserker20 күн бұрын

@@Imyourhuckleberry01 Also the Black & Tans are literally the auxiliary forces recruited by the British government during the Irish War of Independence. I had to look it up, as this bit of field artillery just wasn't in my knowledge base before, but in this song they specifically make mention of the 16 pounder gun (at 0:40) and how the Black and Tan used it to fight a native. Here is the thing, could a Black and Tan have been put on Colonial Duty at some point in his military career before joining the Irish "Police" (occupational) force? Sure, it probably happened with a few of the guys, though they were mostly Great War veterans. Would any Black and Tan have used a 16 pounder gun during his service? Almost certainly not. The last of the guns were pulled from service in 1908, and those were basically only in serious backwaters because it was a muzzle loading black powder cannon, and its time to shine was long past by the Great War. The last time true line troops of Britain used the dang thing was 1889 when they were finished phasing in the 15 pounder (3 inch) guns that were breach loaded (though they had the 12 pounder that was being phased in before this, so even there the 16 pounder was not exactly a front line gun even in the mid 1880s). So they were talking about a field gun that was, most likely, 3 field guns back from any cannon they had ever used. Remember, the Black and Tans were mostly guys that had little to no job experience outside of being a soldier in the trenches (or various other fronts) of WWI. These men were generally in their early 20s (or even late teens) with the odd man out being in his 30s, and this was in the 1920s. Again, that gun was taken out of service before most of them were born. Apparently this is in reference to past British colonial expansion or colonial policing. Again, just weird that they would specifically pull out this piece of artillery out of the air to make a reference in the 20s. Yes, I realize Zulus are mentioned, but again, they specifically pull out the name of this gun. Pedantic, I know, but I had to sit there and do research to sate the ache in my head that little mention caused, and so now I am sharing with the internet at large I guess.
