The Beatles should just have given their entire discography to Cocker to cover.

Agree. All of his covers are superior. I appreciate the Beetles for creating amazing templates for Cocker to elevate .

This movie is a two hour beautiful ride of art, and deep thoughtful directing. Went into a shroom trip by myself two months ago and finally watched this movie. It played on tubi by itself, and it has been engraved in my brain since. She’s so heavy, and hey Jude’s scenes were scenes that resonated so well too. How they merger decades of culture through two hours ... insanity

Joe Cocker has the best voice ever. I was shocked he was British the first time I heard him speak 😂🤣. But he’s also the OG of someone who was totally enabled and therefore almost killed (or allowed to die) by his management... we’ll get to that lol. Anyway.... Not to be cheesy, but if you’re struggling with addiction, or mental health issues, or really anything you feel you won’t be able to get through & also like biographies and/or learning about musicians and artists’ lives bts - WATCH JOE COCKER’S BIOGRAPHICAL DOCUMENTARY (there are a couple really good ones- I think one is even on Netflix, or it was at least- search his name if you remember to and find out... bc that was the best one I’ve seen on him & was just really good in general). Personally, I am in recovery from severe drug addiction, and watched it like 6months into sobriety (I have 3 years now in a couple months- longer than ever before) and I TRULY felt like, “If he can do it, so can I.” by the end, more so than w any other documentary on someone who eventually got sober. Without giving too much away (so it’s still interesting for you lol), as I said, he was one of the OG’s to get “Amy Winehoused” by his management and pushed out on stage when he couldn’t barely stand.... Joe was a SERIOUS alcoholic and abused drugs BEFORE he became rich and famous (but nothing too out of control with drugs..... yet) which obviously is the worst possible scenario bc if someone was an active addict BEFORE they had unlimited money, free drugs everywhere from people trying to kiss ass (they touch on that in the Netflix doc.... I saw that in a Jim Belushi doc... Paul, when you’re a celebrity with a reputation for using drugs or being a big drinker, everybody always tries to slip you drugs, or offers for you to come get in on whatever drug they’re doing- free of charge, to get on your “good side” and become “friends” (So sick. How could you do that to a sick person if you’re not also sick in the same way?). Anyway, so naturally, he got worse and worse as time went on. He had a tour in the UK, which is when he became addicted to (I believe) heroin, continued drinking majority of the day from as soon as he woke, and so on. So naturally, on a good number of nights, he was REALLY messed up by nighttime/showtime. However, he pretty much held it together and got through the shows and therefore everyone got paid and no contracts were broken. Bad thing is: Obviously not knowing he’d become hardcore addicted to heroin, abuse cocaine, and increase his alcohol addiction ten fold. So when the UK leg that he barely got through was over, his band (aka his ACTUAL friends) were like, “If you make him do this American tour. He WILL die.” and guess what? They made him do it anyway bc they wanted the money and to not have to deal w broken contracts. Luckily, he didn’t die, but he DID embarrass himself to a degree that no human with even a DROP of humanity would let another person embarrass themselves. He would forget his own lyrics (he was like 25, mind you), fall down, and even did one show entirely while sitting Indian style on the floor, barely slurring through songs. You get the idea now and why I said he got “Amy Winehoused.” Anyway, I won’t give the details of what happened then or how he finally got better, but he TRULY struggled to stay clean, and relapsed through a LOT of his life (especially with alcohol). He’s inspirational enough for his talent, and being able to get clean after being so so so heavily addicted for so many years (plus the unlimited money and “yes men” everywhere makes it 1000x harder I’d imagine cause let me tell you, it’s hard as hell with supportive people around you so) but also bc he had like FOUR full blown comebacks and for his last hit he was in his early 70s or late 60s. He just never gave up, and especially bc of all the extra issues he dealt with, it’s truly inspirational.
