Dice with inclusions always get the "but are they balanced??" question! The thing is, unless they're casino grade dice, no dice are balanced! However, most dice are perfectly playable, particularly considering that most of us aren't rolling on a level surface free of imperfections anyway, which will also affect the rolls. I've also heard from dice makers that creating weighted dice is actually really difficult even when you're trying to! So, my answer is... they're random enough for me. Even when I say dice "roll badly" (e.g., the toadstool dice I mention in this video), that's coming from a playfully superstitious place rather than a place of "balance." It's not like they rolled ones over and over! They just averaged lower rolls, which is not indicative of a balance issue considering how the numbers are distributed on a standard d20.
@Arcon1ous2 жыл бұрын
oftentimes inclusions are made of the same type of material as the dice themselves, so aside from a bit of paint, they will weigh the same as the material that they are replacing anyway, and aren't much of a concern in general.

I have Die Hard Dices that my mother bought for me on the last christmas because she saw me DMing “Curse of Strahd” for my school friends and she wanted to make me a nice gift She ordered adorable metallic “vampire” dices and also creepy metallic black ones. I love them so much and since then never used any other sets. Before this I only had plastic ones, they weren’t nearly as cool. One of my most favourite DnD things I own. Second place is my Tarokka cards I made on my own with some custom ones for my players that I designed for the same “Curse of Strahd” campaign :))

Die Hard Dice are my favorite (especially their metal ones), but they're totally the dice equivalent of drug dealers. If you add a comment to your order on how you'll use the dice or how you heard of them they include freebies. A *lot* of freebies. My first time I got 10 random plastic/polymer dice and a beautiful metal d20- as my free add-ons! I had bought two mid-price sets, so it wasn't a huge order either. Most recently I got another plain set and a gorgeous navy and gold metal dire d20 as my freebies. They know how to get me hooked, dammit! I blame that initial free metal dice for my later purchase of a whole metal set, so their strategy works :p

@@hqueso I found lots of good options at DieHardDice -- enough that I still ended up with way more sets than I need! I generally stick to the basic polymer dice because I don't want to have to worry about what my play surface is -- and there's the added benefit that each set is typically $6-$10.
@robertdean522 жыл бұрын
I have the same problem; I recently assembled a set of polyhedrals for actual play based on each size being a different color, so I also don’t have to be able to tell the 8s apart from the 10s at a fast glance. I’ve gone with the colors of the original 1976 dice; yellow 4s, pink 6s, green 8s, blue 12s, and white 20s (which double as 10s).
@DonsArtnGames2 жыл бұрын
Then get a set of Pixels. You have them blink a certain way with different colors of your choice and all that. I plan on my dice do like a police light spin when they hit 20s and a waterfall of dark red like blood on nails. The possibilities for light ups and colors are virtually endless. As someone who recently bought a couple of things from Die Hard Dice, I’ve gotta say they really are a cool company! I bought an acrylic set in the same style as the one she showed, and a single metal D20 that’s part of the same Draconian embers series but in blue and purple, and they sent me a Dire D20 FOR FREE along with some really cool postcards! I’d never owned a metal die before, and now I have 2! I also just really love the shape of their acrylic sets, it’s not all of them but the way they kind of blunt the corners is really pleasing to me

They're so cool, idk how they manage to send extra dice and handwritten notes with EVERY order but from what I've heard, they do!! Pretty incredible!

I'm so happy to see the love for DieHard! My (entirely excessive but ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY) dice collection is almost exclusively from them because of that affordability aspect combined with oooh pretty! As a DM, I have 4 sets I use (two Isa sets, Prismatic Moonlight, and the set they made for Percy with Critical Role), and then I have a bag with 16 of their dire d20s (plus the Critical Role chonker) for all my heavy-DM-role-to-scare-players needs. I usually pick 2 d20s per session, loosely theming them after what I've planned. I do actually plan to not stop until I have every dire d20 offered by DieHard. Because reasons.

Some years ago I had that perfectly round D20. It was suppeosed to have weight inside that would make it always stop with a number on top and also not just roll like forever, but it ended up being stuck between two numbers more often than I - and even more our DM . appreciated, so it got banned from our table. I kept it around as a novelty item for a while, but later gifted it to a kid in the neighborhood who started playing RPG games and really liked it.

Ginny : "Who needs this?" My inner dice goblin : "We do! We need that more than food!!" Also, I have a whole bunch of Die Hard dice already. And several sets of Critical Role dice. And I am so jealous that you just randomly get sent dice. I'm really excited about the Dwarven Forge Kickstarter dice reliquaries that I think should very soon be sent out. Oh, and if you ever decide you need a curator for your dice, give me a call. I'm really cheap.

I swear, after seeing this, I realize I have a growing dice addiction and it cannot be sated! About a thousand dice sets on all my online carts, lol. It's too bad I don't have enough money to buy all of them, and I mean EVERY SINGLE one. And this makes me sooo jelly 🥺

I love dice so much! One half my collection was stolen once and I was so sad because they were a lot of my originals but since I’ve definitely rebuilt bigger and better

The last con I was at, before the Dark Times, had a stall selling gummy dice. No idea how well they’d roll, but they were delicious.

And I thought I had a lot of dice. lol I have tons of glow-in-the-dark dice...because of course I do, I'm obsessed with glow-in-the-dark things. I even have a dice roller that lights up inside when you shake the dice so they come out glowing! I've also got a ton of dice sets from Poly Hero Dice. They have a bunch of different class dice sets, where the dice are unusual shapes related to the class the set it based on. They currently have Warrior, Wizard, Rogue and Cleric. I want them to create a Bard set now. And I've spent the most money on Kraken dice. Their dice own me, lol. We got a set of koi dice from there, too. I like their dice, as they have sets with four d6s, two d20s for advantage and disadvantage, and a larger d20 and a smaller d20. I am also obsessed with tiny dice. Got a ton of those (check out the halfling dice bag on Amazon!). Oh, and dice have become jewelry now, too. I got a d20 cage that is perfect to fit my normal-sized d20s, and I can just switch them out to match whatever outfit I'm wearing! Nothing like wearing your hobby, lol. I may have to check some of those places out, some of those dice you showed off were amazing. Tiny dice terrariums indeed!

Since you like the potion dice, you should check out Dice Hero dice - they have a unique set (in several color options) for each of the four core DnD classes. Of course, for some unique non-inclusion dice, Q-Workshop make some cool dice (though some of their sets can get TOO busy on each face) - I particularly like their metal Call of Cthulhu set. I also like several of the sets Bryce's Dice has Kickstarted (you mentioned hollow metal dice sets in another comment reply - the sets I have from Bryce are that).

My favourite set of dice are a hollow metal set that was gifted to me for Christmas: they have dragons on each face for most of them (I'm a dragon fanatic), & a central dragon on the ones with too many faces to do a dragon on each face. Mine are copper coloured. I haven't used them, yet, for a game so I don't actually know how well they roll, but damn, they are cool AF dice.

I have a hollow metal set with spiders for my spider-themed character and they have a cool purple hue. I enjoyed using mine, they feel good, even though they are quite light, and I found mine rolled quite well.

Awesome dice. I have a cold iron d6 for if I'm ever gaming with fey. Also metal d4s in case I run out of caltrops. And pink dice with angry Cthulhu faces for the 1s, great for Demon Hunters.

I have a pretty good selection of dice too. There are red ones, yellow ones, blue ones, and even a few black ones. The best thing about them is that I can easily stuff my whole collection into a pocket. 😁
