Chris Cuomo and surgeon-turned-comedian Bassem Youssef discuss the fraught political landscape of the Middle East, dissect the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, and explore how fear is used as a tool for control across various political landscapes. The conversation expands to critically evaluate the role of media, military-industrial complex, and sensationalism in the perpetuation of conflicts. Youssef provides his unique perspective, underscoring the importance of sustained conversation, understanding opposing views, and balancing heart and head-based decision making.

May be I am too idealistic but if humanitarian concerns conflict our political interests then it’s time to revisit them! That would be the smart thing to do even from a practical perspective. The US is gaining nothing but hatred by this unconditional support for Israel and it breaks my heart coz I love American people so much .. good heart good intentions but the Middle East (and now the whole world ) only see ugly politics and it is creation traumatized generations

Oh absolutely! Can you imagine trying to explain the most basic human rights to people who ACT like they don't understand what you're talking about! . 🤯 I find it so strange how our country has a history of ridiculing those who honestly seek the best of all of us just like Bernie Sanders would have been an all-time great president but the powers that be in the establishment basically made sure that wouldn't happen.

It baffles the mind these sad truths: “It’s easier to fool people than it is to convince them that they have been fooled.” Mark Twain "Is difficult to get a person to understand something when their salary [or social acceptance] depends on not understanding it." Upton Sinclair “Under a tyranny, most friends are a liability. One quarter of them turn “reasonable” and become your enemies, one quarter are afraid to speak, and one quarter are killed and you die with them. But the blessed final quarter keeps you alive.” Sinclair Lewis

Chris, I appreciate you bringing someone who can speak up for the Palestinian cause, but there was a moment in this where you, Chris, stated what Trump said about islam hates America, or that the majority of Arabs/muslims celebrate American loss was so untrue and insulting. The propaganda of lies and narrative by Israel is absolutely evil. Israel has been terrorising the Palestinians for decades. Como keeps trying to subtly justify the atrocities. Israel is a Terrorist state. Thè killing of innocent children and imprisoning of children and young people in the west bank is not mentioned by the press. Before Oct 7th, no one was talking about the open prison and the suffering of the Palestinians. You don't see the press covering these stories because people have been made to think that Arabs are not humans. US is hated across the world because of their behaviour and wars they illegally carried out.

As a Christian, Republican, trump supporter-since October 7th I have lost faith in identity politics. I don’t care if you’re left, right, middle, trump or not, Christian or not-this is evil. What Israel and the US is doing to the Palestinians, to Gaza-the ethnic cleansing, the genocide, it’s downright evil. I am disgusted in how many are still brainwashed by Zionists and their ideology. I really see things in such a different light-I look at aipac as the biggest contender on how our country operates. In a small way, thank you Gaza, the Palestinians, and thank you Bassem for waking so many of us Americans up to the evils of it all. #freegaza #freepalestine

I agree with you. I also think it is very important that in all conversation we do not refer to the Zionists in Israel as ' the Jews'. Zionists are Jews with a very specific ideology but they are NOT all Jews.. I don't believe that the average mainstream media listener and viewer understand that VERY important difference. Being opposed to Zionism is not in any way being anti-Semitic .

This is the kind of dissonance that keeps people dying. Chris was like, "I know about the past, but the 7th...". If he understood the way Palestinians have been treated to all manner of disrespect and degradation, he'd not be so willing to bypass the history so quickly. Furthermore, to dismiss the list of actions engaged in by both Israel and its American spies, including direct assaults on the US military, because, according to Chris, well, "it's messy," that lets you know that he's no better than Piers or any other supposedly objective journalist at recognising the patent bias that shields Israel from any accountability.

I enjoyed and learned from the show . I learned a lot. As a Palestinian American, I grew up in Palestine and lived most of my life in US. I want to brief: 1: Palestinians will not migrate to other countries, because this is their land for thousands of years , not because Arab countries will not take them. 2: The only fair , lasting solution is one state democratic state for all Palestinians and Israelis who want to stay ( Democratic state , not Jewish) 3: The support of US to Israel is turning 2 billion Muslims in the world to hate US . 4: The current Arab dictators , who control their people , so US will feel the heat of the hate. Those dictators will be thrown out , and democratically elected leaders will follow what the people want, and we as Americans will not be happy 5: The popularity of the radical Islamic groups ( ISIS and the rest), is because of Israel terrorizing activities toward the Palestinians. 6: The Charter of HAMAS , was changed . They do not recognize Israel , but they recognize Palestinian state on the 1967 borders ( they do not call for Islamic state, despite what is Israeli propagandists say ) 7: Even Hizbollah ( Alkhomaini who is the first leader of Iran , in an Interview,in 1980 mentioned , once we defeat the Zionist regime , all the Palestinians will go back to Palestine, and if Jews want to stay in free democratic states, they can stay

1 - this is nonsense. 2 - so basically a Muslim saying the Middle East should have "one" state for all its citizens (as minorities are treated quite poorly - to say the least - in all Muslim countries) while the Muslims have all their states and the Jews? They have nothing ... Very generous! 3 - and so little hatred from Muslims toward Assad, who killed more people in 10 years than all the Jews/Muslims killed in the Israel-Arab conflict, or the Chinese who put Muslims in concentration camps, etc ... Maybe the issue is just Yahud? Tell me, why do you call them Yahud? Every wonder that? 4 - Not sure democracy will ever be a staple in the Middle East, but good luck to the minorities ! 5 - This is nonsense. A cheap excuse. It's not his fault he raped her! She provoked him. You realize when the first terrorist act recorded against Jews was on this land? 1850s ... Remind me how many "Israelis" or "Palestinians" there was then? The dude was knifed to death - a Religious Jew, by some Pious Muslim. That was happening throughout the Arab world - just read books, be it in Fez, or Algiers, or Baghdad. Unfortunately, these terrorist groups pop up because the anger of poverty and terribly inept leadership is easily manipulated into anger vs "satan". Pity it's the wrong Satan time after time. 6 - This is lie. Just like the charter of the Houthis, or Hezbollah. Just google it. 7 - YOu mean the same Hezbollah who's leader, Hassan Nasrallah said "If Jews all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide." Perhaps read their charter too?

Chris, great discussion! Thank you for the conversation! It's understandable to feel frustrated by the complexities and injustices in the world. While it's true that historical and geopolitical factors have played significant roles in shaping the Middle East, it's also important to recognize that the region's history is nuanced and multifaceted. Here are a few points to consider: Historical Context: The history of the Middle East is complex and has been shaped by a variety of factors, including colonialism, geopolitics, and resource exploitation. European involvement in the region, particularly during the colonial era, did have significant impacts on the region's political and social landscape. Resource Exploitation: The Middle East is rich in natural resources, particularly oil, which has made it a focal point for geopolitical interests. The exploitation of these resources has often been a driving factor behind foreign interventions and conflicts in the region. Regional Dynamics: It's important to recognize that the Middle East is a diverse region with a long history of cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity. While there have been conflicts and tensions, there have also been periods of coexistence and cooperation among different groups. Current Challenges: The region continues to face numerous challenges, including political instability, economic hardships, and social unrest. These challenges are often exacerbated by external interventions and internal divisions. Hope for a Better Future: Despite these challenges, many people in the region and around the world are working towards a more peaceful and just future. This includes efforts to promote dialogue, reconciliation, and respect for human rights. Ultimately, building a better world requires understanding, empathy, and a commitment to justice and equality for all. It's important to continue having these conversations and working towards positive change, both locally and globally.

Can't believe you gave this Hamas propagandist a platform. Bassem is a wolf in sheeps clothing. He is misleading people. He is a Hamas propagandist and almost every word out of his mouth is a false narrative. He is just very good at putting it across. The helicopters, the rape, the "children" (17 years old terrorists ) who were released this is straight out of the Hamas narrative. Go to fact-check sites and see for yourself.

The best way to undermine the parasites is ridicule. Bassem nails it perfectly. Thank you for having him on your channel. Bassem reminds me of George Carlin. Except the underlying tragedy is very real and leaves a heart full of tears. The only person I know who makes me sob and laugh at the same time. Bless you both for your courage.

Chris I like your openness to allow others to speak their side of the story, but I have to say that there were many things you stated that were on the naivete side. For instance, "Israel will not expand territory into Turkey or Syria", YES absolutely they will. This has been their religious intentions from the beginning, since they reflect all of their goals religiously (Basem is right on this) based. Secondly, October 7th was NOT a simple Hamas terrorist action to provoke an Israel response, if you studied the Likud party history with Hamas, they provided all the financial assistance to Hamas because their military actions would benefit Israel in the end to garner public support to destroy the Palestinian people and remove them from West Bank and Gaza. The current situation is where the focus should be, every international law is being broken by Israel, including a genocide that is occurring, and it should be stopped at all costs. There is no "BUT" for this, there is no justification for this mayhem and destruction of a single group of people. American government and the US president are complicit in this, and they must be the ones to stop Israel. This is NOT a WAR, it is genocide and it has the ability to be rectified quickly with the full support of US.

This podcast must of happened before the latest ceasefire proposal where Hamas did propose to release all their hostages and ask for their people back, but Israel turned it down because they said Hamas was asking for too much. (non-starter)

“From someone with deep connections to the history of this situation,” Maté says he understands “the warmth that Jews have for Israel; I used to be in that same camp. I can understand, after the horrors of the Nazi genocide, how we desperately want some protection. I can understand all that. But none of the excuses what we are doing…there are no two sides…in terms of power and control and its pretty straightforward. There was a land with a people living there and other people wanted it, they took it over, and they continue to take it over, and they continue to discriminate against, oppress and dispose that other people.” Gabor Mate

Great show but one point: only Americans believe "ISIS" (the only Islamist terrorist group known by an English acronym when it's just as easy to pronounce DAESH) is anything but a US creation, cobbled together from fanatics. It's a terror group that kills but makes no demands, serving as the sole excuse for the uninvited US presence in Syria. With Israel raining bombs on Palestinian muslims, this "Islamic State" has nothing better to do than attacking a church in Istanbul (28 Jan. 2024) and a concert hall in Moscow (22 March 2024). In the West, no "ISIS" terrorist has been captured alive after the act.

Why would we expect the US to stop weapons going to Israel to stop the genocide when Israeli lobbyists own politicians? Why would we expect the US govt to modify gun sales in the states to stop the mass killings of citizens when the politicians are owned by the lobbyist of the NRA.? There is no humanity in the majority of politicians. But they can give out big beautiful bouquets of THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS !!!
