What does Ancestry define as direct ancestors? I’m searching through my DNA matches and I’m looking for a particular name and it says “Direct ancestors with the last name _____” Does that mean Mom and Dad, Grandma and Grandpa, and then 2x Grandma and 2x Grandpa, and on and on? Does it exclude aunts and uncles?
@AncestryUS
@AncestryUS 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for getting in touch, Carrie! Direct ancestors are people who are 4th great grandparents and closer in the surname search. So when you search for a name, this would be the ancestors that are included in this list. We hope this provides some clarity for you. We've included an article to help you to make the most of your DNA Matches too: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Making-the-Most-of-AncestryDNA-Matches. We hope this will help! Please do feel free to reach out if you still have some further queries or concerns. 🙂

Does this include aunts and uncles and cousins, or does this only include 4x great grandparents, 3x, 2x, great grandparents, and grandparents?
@AncestryUS
@AncestryUS 3 жыл бұрын
Hey again, Carrie-Lee! Your aunts and uncles won't be included, it would be the direct line of parents, grandparents, great grandparent and so on. Thank you for getting back to us!

I do a lot with Ancestry. Luckily, I had a great-grandmother I listened to all the time. She passed away just shy of 103. Now her daughter, my great-aunt is 102 and still "with" it. I remember them all talking in the front yard so now I'm able to see and meet those names I heard all my life. Like Anthony, my family came from the south and the Civil and Revolutionary Wars. It's been interesting to say the least.

That's something his ancestors were in the Confederate army, went AWOL then joined the Union army! In my research I found many who deserted daring and after the Civil War lol. Finding an ancestor who fought in tbe revolutionary War has got to be the greatest! His ancestor fought the whole time and got a land grant. I have some who served definitely. The Civil War is more complex because the names are similar but they have pension records for both sides.

Wow what a coincidence. I am a black female and I have lot of white in my family. I have a lot of Elijah's in my family. My third & fourth grandparents were Elijah. One of my grandfather were married to a Indian women whom we have yet to find her records. I am from the south and I've been trying to search for this Indian women who is my great great great grandmother. One of my grandparents were a Elijah Davis. I'm just curious if you have any African American blood in ya Anthony. I've heard the story when a white male have a tab bit curly beard.. sometimes mean he have 1 to 7 percent of African American. Sorry not to be rude. Thou I sort of her this proof from another white male. Thou any way I'm married to a white male. I have more than 500 white family members. I have a white relative that lives right here in Alaska and didn't even know it. She is my third cousin. Isn't that something... hahaha. Steff in Alaska

“Is my family from the south? Did they come from another country?!?!” Dude, look at your beard. No, you are not Native American from the south. Southerners need to remember that they are immigrants, too. I think so many conservatives think they are only “from America” and they most certainly are not fully native.
