In a just world, the person who cynically and overtly lied, "He's got a weapon!", should be given some kind of caution about incitement to violence. With the first amendment he's likely free to do so, but that kind of egregious lie, used to subvert our good social graces against ourselves should bear some kind of punishment.

Generally speaking, the first amendment does not protect people who use speech intentionally to incite violence against a person. In this case, the guy was lying, both technically and in principle (legally, as far as I am aware, a broken stick is not considered a lethal weapon), and very clearly with the intention to provoke unjustified violence against Vito, who was already being assaulted by the same guy who yelled that out. So yeah, that guy is absolutely liable to face charges, not only for assault and destruction of property, but for incitement to violence as well.

The same guy who broke Vito's sign got between another sign and Vito's friend. He then started saying he was being attacked and another protestor responded by pushing Vito's friend into a cement ball and giving Vito's friend a brain injury.

There's actually an even worse video that deserves covering where the guy who was with vito gets assaulted while vitos sign stealer tries the same move on Dave masterson. Clearly no one (who’s mad about it) actually listened to what Dave had to say. It’s a beautiful tribute to his trans friend who he loved very much, in spite of being transphobic. His trans friend, who was destroyed by their own community for standing up for Dave. Because she loved Dave as much as Dave loved her. It’s a beautiful story of love and acceptance across falsely constructed barriers. He even begged the community not to come after him and ruin his life for telling his story. His story, from his perspective, about his own life. How dare he.

Things in America a bit better? Yeah there are big portions of the country that don’t kowtow to woke, but we already have legislation in multiple states enshrining males in women’s prisons, self ID, and outlawing therapists trying to help children be okay with their born actual sex (when 80+% would outgrow cross sex identification if left alone not being affirmed and many of them grow up to be gay, while affirming leads to a medical pathway involving sterility, dangerously low bone density, micro penis for males, major irreversible surgery before 18). In the UK, those three issues are being discussed and debated, several having been shot down although of course the lobby keeps trying to push it through. In the US this is being passed in stealth and most people think this is about ultra feminine gay men when 80-90% of cross sex identifying males are heterosexual who fancy themselves lesbian and of teenagers seeking medical and surgical intervention most are girls, many autistic or lesbian.
