I totally agree that society (actually the privileged mass) likes to stay in the status quo and any act that disturbs that status quo and pushes the boundary of progressiveness will offend that mass. So, artists should not hesitate to offend people. However, in the case of Nepal, unfortunately, artists are not pushing that boundary toward progressiveness. Rather they are in a way, bullying the marginalized and underprivileged communities and further marginalizing them. Such acts should be resisted although jailing might not be the form of resistance.

Everyone except Bharatmani has a half-developed attitude toward Freedom of Speech. They are trying to apply western standards of freedom of speech and acceptance of racial jokes in comedy in a country that has 123 languages struggling for existence. Rules, laws and societal norms vary primarily based on location. I dare any of these comedians to go to Germany and do that saalaami gesture as comedy content and see what the local law does to them. I dare any of these "modern" comedians to do a standup in the US, point to an African American person in the audience and joke about how stupid his face looks. They will experience a good freedom of speech served right to them in a matter of minutes when the police arrive. Apoorva's comedy went leaps and bounds beyond even what qualifies as "Dark" Humour. These comedians talk about western standards while having no idea how high the standards for protecting marginalized communities in the western world are, even in comedy. These half knowledge, wannabes have no idea how the western world protects languages, cultures, and norms that are not even their own, by Law.
