Comeng XPT - part 8

This is part 8 in a series dedicated to capturing the Commonwealth Engineering Express Passenger Train - the Comeng XPT.
Watch from Wolli Creek Station as ST23, being lead by XP2015 and supported by XP2019, branches on to the East Hills line as it heads south. Then watch multiple services arrive at and depart from Sydney Terminal. And take a look around inside the cab of XP2004 while it idles on Platform 2.
Turn your sound up and listen to the mighty Paxman VP185 12-cylinder diesels and other associated sounds from the train. Particular attention has been made to capture the audio in best quality possible for the full audio-visual experience.
This video is dedicated to all the staff - past and present - who have made and will make the running of this train service possible and an experience of a life time.

are these not modified versions of the british class 43?

Yes - they are a significantly modified version of. You could say Australia took ‘inspiration’ from the HSTs. The XPTs has a different nose design and cab layout, a down-rated engine, larger cooling unit, differen suspension design, a shorter power cab length … these are the differences I can think of off the top of my head.

From memory I thnk British Railways actually helped the NSWGR make/design them

@@raildoestravel Most were ‘made’ (manufactured) in Sydney (Granville), and I think some power cars were made in Melbourne? (I could be wrong). But, yes, there was some design and support from the UK 👍🏻 Common wording on the internet is the XPTs were ‘based on the British Rail-designed High Speed Train …’.
