I probably rode this a 100 times back in the 70's and 80's at it's original home at Crystal Beach amusement park in Ontario Canada they even let you ride it backwards for a few years just before the park closed for good in 1989... great memories of the best wooden coaster ever!
@mickzed6746 Жыл бұрын
I actually drove past the exact location today where this ride once stood, 1983 was the last time I was there before today. It's truly unbelievable how that area is so different from how I remember. Darien lake and Canada's wonderland was the nail in the coffin for Crystal Beach amusement park. I'm glad the comet lives on for people to enjoy because this ride is definitely an absolute beast.
@christophersargeant45455 жыл бұрын
Got in 32 rides on a slow day in early July, a seat in each row probably at least once but mostly in the back third. Once for every year it has been gone from Crystal Beach and a few more for good measure. It's gentle enough to ride all day yet intense enough to stay interesting. One of only a handful of coasters I would call "perfect". My favorite features are the lift chain that literally launches you over the hill and the chattering of the trains on the unbanked curves. Back seats of each car seem to have somewhat less restrictive restraints. Great to see that it still has a good home.

This double out and back design seen here on the Comet looks much smoother compared to the double out and back design of the Wild Cat model which can be experienced at Canada's Wonderland on the Wild Beast or at Kings Dominion on the Grizzly. Wild Beast is way too rough and is not enjoyable. I haven't been on it for nearly five years now. But I do enjoy out and back coasters such as Mighty Canadian Minebuster at Canada's Wonderland or the Racer at Kings Island. Nice video! :-)

@coolpopstex2000 Not exactly. The only thing the Coney Island Cyclone has in common with the Crystal Beach Cyclone is the name. The Comet was indeed relocated. I was there yesterday, this was the only high or even moderate speed ride without a 30-60 minute wait and priority pass dorks jumping up the line the whole time, I think because it was at a remote end of the park and appeared from a distance to be closed. It reminded me of the cyclone from riv- excuse me "six flags new england" which I had to wait easily over an hour for the last time I bothered trying to go there in 2019. If I had known about this earlier I probably would have stayed over there and kept going on it to make the day seem like less of a wash but by that point the place was almost closed because apparently 6pm is late. what a trash heap income discriminating company. I find a video about the best thing there and it just reminds me of the worst things.

Oh wow, this is just how I remembered it...back in 89 at Crystal Beach. Do half the cars still have a backwards option? Sad what happened to the park though - but understandable. I believe a ferry that took Americans into Canada had to be shut down making a trip to the park an inconvenience and the lack of visitors brought hard times for upgrades or new rides - making the park really dumpy in the end...but I remember having a few fun days there with my family.

If Six Flags would invest some of their money on Great Escape to get a new Intamin roller coaster without a relocation, Great Escape could live up to its name. Sure, this ride has some of the best airtime in the world, but they need a brand new coaster. Maybe an Intamin Mega Lite coaster would do good. I know they cost 15 million dollars, but if if SF could invest money here, it could be possible. Plus Mega Lites' do not take up a lot of space.
@collinparsons33635 жыл бұрын
The fact is that Great Escape has the smallest market of any Six Flags park. It's really just a local/regional park for people who live in or are visiting the Capital/Lake George region. And even people who live in Albany are much more likely to go to Six Flags New England which has far better rides. Great Escape is also severely space constrained. There is very little room to build anything without removing an existing ride. If they tore down the Steamin Demon and remove the preferred parking on that side of the road, they might have room for a basic out and back hypercoaster. That's about the biggest they could do. But tearing down Steamin Demon would mean they'd lose their only complete circuit looping coaster.
