My mum bought an EOS 3000 new in 1999, I came along in 2001, my life was captured using that camera into the 2010s! I still have it and like to use it for sentimental reasons. Great video.

Got one of these on eBay 3 months ago after watching this vid. Offered $40 and it came with the kit lens 28-75 mm. Photos on the kit lens turned out really good so I decided to purchase a 40MM 2.8 lens for this and it's been a favorite ever since!

I was recently handed down a Minolta Maxxum 5 camera - also one of the last and very fully featured film SLR's - which uses a 'Minolta A' mount. It's quickly become my go to film camera due to its versatility, portability, and near lack of limitations. I've seen a lot of focus on a few 'cult cameras' online so I hope more people realise the value in late-SLR cameras and try them out (particularly considering the rock bottom prices)!
@DaniloAllen3 жыл бұрын
I feel like it's an untapped area in the film photo camera market in a way - these late-SLR's are really good! I hope more people give it a try (but I also want the rock bottom prices to remain please)

Thanks for your review. I bought my first EOS 600 in 1987. It worked very well apart that I forgot a couple of times that it worked only on batteries!. I bought a new one in 1992 as a backup. In 2021 the cameras are still working!. I bought later on a EOS 5 new and a EOS 3 secondhand . I also got a second hand a EOS 1N in 2005. The only camera which is beyond repair is the EOS 1N. I recently bought for friends a EOS 1000, a EOS 600 as well as a EOS 5 for ridiculous prices, less than the price of a colour film!. The only problem with those cameras is the depreciation in value during those years . In 1992, I could choose between a Silver Konica Hexar and a Canon 600, they had the same price . I went for the Canon 600 and made the wrong choice in my opinion. But I agree with you, they are one of the best value cameras to buy at the present time. Many Thanks. MP

Such an interesting comment, thanks for sharing! You’re so right, as an investment front the 90’s to present they definitely aren’t the best. But as far as value for camera, it’s hard to beat!

This is sooo cool ! So last year i started with photography as a hobby, i bought a 90d with some L lenses such as 35mm 1.4, 24-70,... Now that i know how to play around with a dslr, i thought it would be a good challenge to start shooting with analog cameras. Then i saw your video. I started searching for my dads analog canon. Turns out its a canon 3000, just like yours !

I got one of these for 20 quid off ebay with a lens and a load of expired film and a bag. I sold the bag for 40 quid, I sold the lens for 45 quid and I sold the film as a bundle for 40 quid. The camera is great. Works well. If I shoot 35mm it will be with this camera. I am a professional photographer and have a raft of EF L series lenses but I just tend to slap a nifty 50 on it. Great camera does the job well.

Sounds like you got a great deal there! I can totally relate to just going nifty fifty most of the time, it’s just so convenient and the weight of the camera balances well with it

@@DaniloAllen yeah I got lucky. I knew nothing about analogue slrs when I saw it I couldn't believe how well it worked with the af system of the lenses. I liked the comparison you made in the video with modern mirrorless cameras. It feels very similar weight and size wise.

I’ve got an EOS 1V, EOS 1N and a bunch of EOS 500’s. The EOS 500 is what I probably use the most. The metering is reliable, it weighs next to nothing, and with a modern 50mm EF lens the image quality is outstanding. Sure vintage cameras have more street cred but at the end of the day I don’t really give a sh1t what the camera looks like. I suggest buying these whist you can pick one up for under A$80 with a lens!

I prefer Nikon over canon simply because of the much wider lens compatibility. I also prefer Nikon glass over canon. But honestly the Nikon version (Nikon F100?) of the Canon eos 3000 does not take any better photos. They’re both essentially light-tight boxes. It’s the quality of the lens and the ability of the photographer that’s most important.

I picked up a similar one, eos rebel ti with the 28-90mm lens, for $10 USD at a local thrift store and have been very pleased with it. True it doesn't feel as heavy duty as some of my vintage full manual cameras like my nikon fm, but it's extremely easy to use and fast. I keep it around as a backup/loaner for friends.

After I got into Pentax Digital, I picked up a PZ20 for less than the cost of a Kodak Gold 3-pack. Almost less than the 2CR5 battery. Figured I could use some of the lenses I already was getting for my digital camera on a really basic electronic film SLR. It’s been a really fun and worthwhile purchase. I can totally see similar EOS cameras being a great option, too. A worthy pickup for anyone who has a lens or two, and wants to have some fun with film. Not sure whether I’d redo seeking out one of these systems to someone who didn’t already have lenses for it, just because of the breakdown of electronic cameras. But on the other hand, mechanical SLRs can be deceptively expensive these days, and while the service options are more robust, that can be expensive too. I bet a basic EOS and the Nifty 50mm f/1.8 can usually be found used for less than the cost of a working K1000 on eBay. There’s less romance to a plastic AF camera, but most folks will probably get sharper and better exposed pictures.

That looks a cool camera with your L series lens on! I've got the 35mm Eos 3 and its a superb camera, alot of professional features on there I've not used yet but alot of camera for what it costs. I have the 35mm eos 50e also, alot more user friendly I enjoy it and use it more, its not overly complicated. Both film cameras are very good especially when combined with my 50mm f 1.8 that I use on my 40D. I even used an Ef mount sigma lens on my Canon film camera the other day so looking forward to see how they develop. Enjoyed this video, thanks for making it

I want to actually be shown the difference between the old lens mounts and the new lens mounts in regards to bokeh. Are the wider openings of the new systems noticeably better?
@DaniloAllen3 жыл бұрын
That's a very interesting question. I haven't done much research into it but as I understand it, the bigger the glass the wider an f/stop you can have and end up with at least more bokeh. It's really down to the lens you are using and what style of bokeh you like as well.

@DaniloAllen3 жыл бұрын
I'm not entirely sure on that one, the EOS 5 is a more premium offering though it's also the oldest. The EOS 300V is the newest but also a more budget camera from its time. The EOS 55 is kind of a middle ground between the two as far as manufacturing dates go and price category. I'd really have to personally try out the cameras to figure out which one I liked best. Hopefully this information helped though!

Yep, these cameras are largely overlooked because you don’t LOOK as much the “HIPSTER” as with an over hyped and inferior AE-1. If you shoot film, you should have at least one more modern autofocus SLR- much better cameras. Nikons N80 and F100 are the choices for that brand (I own good copies from all brands)
