I made comfrey tea for my mom when she fell last winter. She refused to go to the doctor for a month! Stubborn woman. Anyway, when we finally got her to go, the orthopedist told her she was all healed up-in a month! She’s in her late 70’s. It should have taken much longer. I attribute it to the comfrey.

I have a recipe using fresh comfrey leaves chopped & then whizzed into tomato juice. I gave it to my ex-husband after he had a 1,000+ lb vending machine fall on his chest. I’m sure he had broken ribs. He drank it twice a day & was working pain free on day 3. I’m wondering if the tomato juice helped protect the liver? It’s a very old recipe that we got from an old herbalist when my sister & I took her class. I’m happy to share if anyone wants it.

Sorry this took so long. I’ve been moving & that’s a slow process when you’re my age! 2 comfrey leaves 1 celery stalk 1 med clove garlic 1/2 gal tomato juice Chop comfrey, celery, & garlic fine Blend with 1/2 cup juice til smooth. Add rest of juice. Drink 8 oz glass 2-3 times a day. *If it seems too thick, add a bit of water. My then-husband didn’t care for the taste so he added Louisiana Red hot sauce. Hope this helps!

We live in the bush up the far north of New Zealand. We have comfrey growing all over here. If I move any with stem or root on it, it takes off. We use it in balms with a plant called Kawakawa here in NZ. I rip the comfrey up, throw it into a bin with water, fish frames etc & let it break down then feed it on my garden.

I am off to adding some to my wile berry tea blend. Last year I learned about a bush that is considered very invasive, but the berries are loaded with more nutrients than goji berries so Tom and I were thrilled to discover a forest, near our cottage, full of the bushes as well as some bushes on our property that we were told were Honeysuckle, but the berry is distinctively different. We harvested over 40 pounds of which I dehydrated most and they are in my tea along with lots of strawberry, blackberry and raspberry leaves. Oh yum! Oh and the bush is called Autumn Olive berry. I also powder them and we add them to yogurt, chia pudding, pine needle iced tea, smoothies, etc...

Hey Heidi! I too have concluded I have a pinched nerve on my right side with numbness in my thumb and a few of my fingers. I have just found a few exercises that will hopefully help. My daughter once had a nasty burn on her hand from hot oil that covered a large area. A poultice of comfrey root, honey, and wheat germ oil completely healed her hand. It was restored to essentially its natural color. She wore a poultice for about a week. I also use the leaf in my daily nutri-tea. I think it aids skin regeneration. My age is 53. I have hardly any skin wrinkling. I need to order the seeds. Have a wonderful day!

@@RainCountryHomestead Let's hope it gets resolved for you soon. Do you think passionflower would aid with the nerve pain? I once had neuropathy and used sodium ascorbate. It is not helping as much these days since I take it as a tonic daily, I guess. For me, sleeping can literally be painful. Using a pillow under my arm has helped a little. I used to work out a lot. I used to have some impingement issues. My body might be telling me to get back on my game. If you get it resolved, I would love to know your solution. Remain well..........

Works well with boneknit -a different plant. But comfrey soaks are great and great for osteoporosis! I make a good heavy decoction and then pour into a big bath and soak - the water goes from green to clear after a while - the body absorbs- be careful if its a deep open wound - it will close the skin before the under area heals - I am sure you know that! The alkaloids are what shows in alcohol based extracts - tea isn’t much of a problem. One cancer patient took it internally a lot during chemo and died so they said it was the comfrey - not the toxic chemo!

I've been using Comfrey in various ways for over 30 years now, including internally. IMHO, the toxicity is way overblown and just another case of megacorp going out of their way to demonize the competition and protect their profit margins over being truthful. Of course isolated alkaloids, given intentionally at absurdly high doses are going to be toxic. But in the plant, they aren't isolated from all the cofactors and enzymes that, taken as a whole and in rational doses, are completely safe. Bear in mind, the money worshipers are the same imbeciles that tried to claim supplemental vitamin C was toxic... neglecting to say that an average male would need to sit and chow down on a five gallon buckets worth to get even close to a toxic dose.

When do you propagate your comfrey plant? Spring/ Summer/ Fall . For sure I am going to plant my potted comfrey at the farm this fall but I made sure it will be available to me next spring from the folks I bought it from at the farmers market. I can't tell you how thankful I am that you did the previous videos to the comfrey. Because of you my knee has not swollen since my four day treatment. You inspired me to do more research so I could try it for myself. I even done a video on my channel to show my friends how to make a poultice.

I’ve used Comfrey for years for all manner of scrapes and insect bites. I haven’t taken it internally, but I use 190 proof Everclear to make a tincture, add MCT Oil and then distill the alcohol out of it at 170 degrees. I’ve had two knee surgeries they said would last 5 years before I’d need a knee replacement. The first was in 2006, the second was in 2012 and with the Comfrey oil my knees are fine. I also have arthritis in my hands and shoulders that I use the oil on and I have full range of motion without much pain! Comfrey is the best cure for what ails me much better than the Hydrocodone my Doctor had prescribed! Great video!

I have CRPS which is a nerve disorder. I am wondering if it would help with the pain. As a lotion maybe. Just curious as this is not pain caused by anything else but nerves. I broke my ankle 2 years ago and it healed just fine, but CRPS (Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome) set in. It is where the radicals that are sent to your brain do not turn off and keep sending pain signals constantly. So everyday it feels like my foot is being broke every day. There is no cure. At this point I am willing to try anything. Only thing that takes the edge off is pain meds which I hate taking.

Have you done a video on common mallow and how to use it? It grows all over my yard. My dogs and chickens eat it. Any chance you could put together dvds of your videos per topic?. Say an herb and medicinal plant video, home remedy video...be nice to have on hand if the internet goes down.

I only have videos on marshmallow but common mallow has many similar benefits and can be used in much the same way. Though I have considered DVDs, I am thinking that may not be the best method of physical video storage. Then, just like writing a book, there is the extra time involved that I currently do not have. It would be far more than people realize. I have nearly 1200 videos right now so there would be a lot of time just sorting through and organizing, let alone copying to whatever device

"From the Shepherd's Purse" has to me got to be a best of the best reference books ... both volume one and two. My great aunt Leana took me by the hand an planted it near a building and while doing so informed me of its many properties... I am nearly 73 now yet this is when I was seven or little more older, she was in her nineties and looked much younger than that even to me at that age... we lost a great mind when she past away. I have used it everyway possible and repeatedly., no harm or fowl. I know that I had a ulcer being treated by good doctors that could not get turned around, surgery only to fix yet drinking that tea every day for some good while healed that terrible ulcer completely. I think of it with Aloe Vera as a super plant. I have drank the juices from the roots as well and used a drop or so of honey to sweeten

Heidi. The comfrey would be a wonderful salve for your upper back. Yes-Susun Weed drinks comfrey infusions daily..for years and has claimed no problems.. I don't drink it daily but I don't hesitate internal use either. An interesting fact about my comfrey.. Is that I planted them in front of my bee hives. They do love the flowers, but more interesting is that large leaves drapped on the porch of the hives, and my bees actually ate the leaves.. giant leaves were 1/2 eaten. I could taste confrey in the honey, but if you didn't know it, you probably couldn't tell. I had wondered about the medicinal value of the honey - if it was simular to manuka honey. IDK Don't under estimate the power of a castor oil pack with heat for your upper back. It is amazing. You can make a castor oil pack and then put it in a jar and in the fridge and you can use it many times over.. Thanks Heidi.. Nice video..

I bet the honey would be amazingly helpful in many things, that is very cool! As far as my back, I have a hard time MAKING the time to have to lay still with a pack on it. I keep meaning to but get so busy and work clear up until I am falling asleep on the couch. However, since shooting this video about a month ago, I finally made an appointment to see my massage therapist. She is amazing and it had been years since I had been in. She believed the arm issue was coming from my neck rather than upper back and worked me over good. Still a bit sore but much better. I have another appointment with her next week

Thank you Green Rage. I just planted comfrey for the 1st time last summer and its rather slow starting, being crowded a bit by other plants in that little section. I've dried a few leaves but have yet to use them. Im interested in bee keeping but my allergies have stopped me. Barbara O'Neill's "natural remedies" youtube showed me how to make a poultice with equalparts powdered charcoal and psillium, lifted carefully into a small ziplock, and enough water to make a thick slurry, mixed by squishing the outside of the bag til the lumps mostly disolve. Expess the air and flatten to a quarter of an inch, and this will keep in the fridge a month or two, or the freezer for longer. I applied a tablespoon to my yellow jacket sting(s) on my hand within 15 of being stung, bound with only a paper towel. The 2nd 3rd and 4th stings disappeared in under 2 hours. The primary sting site got red but only about a half inch around the spot and had very little swelling or pain. I kept this on for 36 hours, and a new patch a couple times the following day for a couple hours. No antihistamines needed! This is quite remarkable for me. It usually takes over a week.

I love Comfrey. I use it externally and internally. I use in my orchard around my fruit trees, I also give it to my chickens and chop and drop. I use it on sprains, cuts, scrapes, aches and pains. As far as internally, I use a mixture of dried comfrey and Earl Grey Cream (vanilla) and make a tea. I usually have a cup a day but not always. Comfrey has been used for thousands of years and if the USDA/Big Pharma says it causes cancer and want to ban it then I believe it works. That goes for Apricot Seeds too. Although I haven't been able to find them. These are just my humble opinions. Thank you Heidi! I love your channel and all the information that you give. You are by far my favorite for information quality and quantity!

I agree and have had that same assessment on the fear mongering surrounding it and many other natural means of healing ourselves. And yes, I often get the random person that freaks out about me using peach pits to make vinegar because they are "toxic". I actually have a video coming out, I think later this week, about that very thing. When I am working up peaches and if a pit comes open and does not have a rotten kernel, I will eat it because it is loaded with nutrients. I eat whole apples from the bottom to the stem. The only thing I do not eat is the stem - just too woody! haha

@@ginahudson6152 I kinda wing it. First I used a non-petroleum baby "vaseline' as a base. It uses shea butter as ITS base. I add coconut oil, tea tree oil, comfrey extract, peppermint essential oil for pain cooling effects (menthol) and lemon balm extract for nourishing nerves in that area . Remember I made it for hemorrhoids. You might adjust it for diaper rash. i make it in about 2 oz or 4 oz. quantities and put it into tiny jars I saved from another product. I whip it together really well with a tiny whip and a tiny spoon. It seems to mix together really well and never separates. For diaper rash you might put calendula oil or extract since that is a reall skin healer. And skip the peppermint unless baby has sores that need a pain deadener.

@@suzanmiller558 It is a little goopy (soft) so I put it in a little jar. I start with a base of a product called Bees Online Body Jelly -a natural product used instead of petroleum jelly. ITS base is shea butter if you prefer. I add a dollop of coconut oil. Then I add Comfrey extract, peppermint oil (for menthol, for pain) I also add tea tree oil, and lemon balm extract , to sooth nerve sheath linings.. This does a tremendous job on hemorrhoid's but is safe enough to use on other parts of the body when necessary. You must mix it really well so it won't separate. Then I load it into jars. I always keep one in the bathroom and one in my purse. This has been a first aid lifesaver on trips etc. I do not measure but less is better until you get familiar with how each ingredient feels on your skin.
