I regularly drink tea made from my own homegrown comfrey and have done so for many years to no ill effect-in fact, quite the contrary! I’m far healthier than anyone I know. Also, as recently as April 2022, I noticed comfrey tea for sale at Walmart online!

Traditional herbalists say that liver damage after normal doses of comfrey tea ingestion was not reported before science found that it has toxic PA compounds. Many have stopped using it internally out of an abundance of caution. It might be safe enough for people who don’t already have liver problems. I've been making this for 33 years. Came to see how you do it. I infuse it as well. I saw one vid where she powdered the dry comfrey leaves. Folks said they like it. I wouldn't, but that's me.

I’m on a farm and ferment comfrey leaves for use as a natural super fertilizer. I also grow the Boking cultivars #4 and #14… both of which produce only STERILE seed… so they’re non-invasive. So the only means of propagation is by crown division and/or root cuttings.

I’ve heard reports that comfrey makes a particularly rich compost and compost tea! A non-invasive cultivar sounds very cool!

@@dr.mindya.curryndpassionfo7590 I’m a retired DC and addition to using Comfrey as a pollinator, fertilizer and valuable member of my fruit tree guilds, I’ve also been drinking comfrey for many years with no ill affects whatsoever-in fact, quite the contrary- I’m healthier than anyone I know. It AMAZES me that so many lay people have embraced the baseless fear-mongering surrounding this amazing plant-but of course the FDA only has the public’s best interest at heart 🙄 yeah, right. After it’s disappearance many years ago from the shelves of health food stores, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that even Walmart online is selling Comfrey tea these days. If you ever need a reputable source for Boking #4, let me know.

@@jude7321 I would slather the wound topically with comfrey salve. Traditionally it has been used internally as a tea. Currently science says that it’s full of nasty liver killing toxins that didn’t seem to harm people in the olden days. So while I cannot publicly suggest drinking comfrey tea, if your friend decides to do that, probably don’t do it for more than a month or two and not if they already have liver disease issues.

I tried this method, trying to save some time but found by morning the temp rose to 186 degrees!! 😵 At that temp every bit of goodness I did all this for was essentially wiped out. I babysit it now over 24 hrs.

That got a bit warm! I’d bet plenty of the goodness remained even though the temp got too high. I’d have probably used it on my tired dry feet at night just to not waste all that beautiful green oil. Chalk that up to a lesson in getting to know your crock pot better!

My ex-husband fell off stairs. Let's just say he broke both bones in his lower leg. After a surgery and 3 weeks in the cast, they gave him a boot but no walking. I made a comfrey salve from my organic garden. He was not supposed to be able to go back to work till oh about at the earliest in late September. He went back at the end of August (school bus driver). His doctors were amazed at how fast his bones healed.

Vitamin E oil is not really necessary, but may help extend the lifespan of your salve. I don’t have a real ratio for Vit E in this. I tend to just add “some”.

Comfrey can help relieve pain and reduce inflammation in painful muscles/joints, speed the healing of bruises and contusions and has been traditionally used to treat tendon, ligament and muscle problems, fractures and wounds.

I grow plants that bloom like comfrey and the leaves are prickly, but the leaves are not as long , they are more rounded at the top . Is this just another spisie of comfrey?

@@gratitude5740 there’s a number of related species that look similar. Borage and lungwort come to mind. It’s probably not a comfrey.

@@Jemmyjo there are not clear instructions and doses on purpose. You should go in person to an herbalist or naturopath to develop a formula including multiple herbs to address your wholistic issues for best results. Doses are also rather variable depending upon your sensitivity to herbs and how quickly your liver processes and excretes them. I have had patients who can only tolerate drop doses of strong herbs, while other patients need tablespoons to get the same result from the same tincture. Certainly you can just start playing randomly with some plants that you met on the internet, but without proper herbalist training or support, your results may vary.

@@toekneelorenzo2942 comfrey has been used traditionally topically to reduce inflammation in gout. It’s probably better to try to reduce the uric acid in your body through less-rich diet, tart (unsweetened) cherry juice, and by getting off of hydrochlorothiazide (blood pressure med).

Honestly in my opinion I think you're perfectly fine eating them as long as you're not eating a a hefty amount and in a concentrated amount because you said that they were concentrating it my opinion of course something internal was going to go down because if you concentrate a substance and then give something like a rat that concentrated amount what do you think is going to happen
