I feel like all the grading prices should be set and not be based on a percentage of what it could potentially sell for. This just opens the door for CGC to potentially inflate grades for certain books to get more money in. That’s just my two cents

I guarantee all those Wolverines were from a old dealer and they've been sitting in a long box for 40 years. I used to go to "outlet" comic stores in the late 80s they would have long boxes of just 1 or 2 issues. I remember they had a long box of just Wolverine issues 3 and 4 for $1 each. Most were .25 These were returns. Sometimes they would mark the top of the books with a marker..but then more than half didn't have a mark.There was one in Atlanta and one in Macon GA..(which was crazy place to have a comic outlet store...but it happened!)

38:35 - THIS is what the doubters have been prophesying about since the comic boom took off. Be careful about your "investment" when you are investing in the current paradigm only. CGC and big accounts have always been playing with house money, and collectors have been frothed up by the 9.8 chase for the last few years. Personally, I have to tell myself that imperfections are acceptable. My greed cannot be fed, and I have to accept books in 5.0 if that is what I can afford.

You all make a good point, the benefit of CGC being a little more transparent is that we can at least better understand how CGC approaches the grading process. I think there's a lot of folk wisdom which floats around that Matt Nelson is slowly blowing up.

I was doing this with 9.6 books previously. I bought 3 9.6 CGC/CBCS and submit to McFarlane. And I Bought 3 9.6 CGC/CBCS Marvel Team-Up #141 to send to Adams. In each case I got back a 9.8. That was my hope for just 1 to pop. 9.8. Even if one drops to 9.4 and 1 stays at 9.6 it's still a big win. Now we can do the same with 9.8 books. The philosophy is now the same for 9.8s!!!

It's really crazy that a book graded 9.6 has both staple in rust. Even the scan by CGC in their database show the rust... It was graded less than 2 months ago... There's no mention of it in grades note but a similar book in condition and staple rust got the note and 7.0 Crazy man... and I've bought this book. ps staple rust should be objective, not subjective in grading...

If CGC wants to maintain a credible reputation as an impartial grader, what's stopping them from posting a vid of a Wolvie #1 9.8 with a Wolvie #1 9.9-10.0 and point out exactly what stopped both books from being 9.9- 10.0

Everyone seems to be arguing about the cgc debate for the whole rather than for themselves personally. Each individual is going to have to take all this new data and the allegations under consideration in order to make a decision for yourself alone of you are going to do future business with cgc or not. People that are going to profit most definitely are going to continue to submit books. Those that wont or are concerned about the possibility of their collection losing value due to cgc's decisions then dont support them further. Best way to speak is with your wallet.

What if ... an influencer (like one of YOU) get subscribers to send one person ( a hub, if you will) that have already gotten a CGC 9.8 ( like a pre-pre screen ) then send in to CGC so comparative grading is put into effect and increases the likelihood of getting a CGC 9.9 or 10, then pools the profits from sales ? I know it's crazy but may be profitable 😮
@joshuawyatt43814 ай бұрын
That is called a 'Pyramid Scheme' and is exactly what CGC anticipates 'collectors' will do to reverse their decreased revenue from multiple lawsuits, exposed slab integrity and reholdering processes, non-repeatable grading standards, and their under-the-table dealings with auction houses. Grade inflation is the next step and it hinges on enough gamblers being dumb enough to give them their time and money in the hopes they will be treated like Vincent Zurzolo. Spoiler alert: they will not!
