You hit the nail on the head! I use no less then 3 boards per comic and always a Mylar! I mean, we need to take care of what we sink our money into.

Good video... I use mylites 2s and fullbacks with a normal backboard for that extra sturdiness

With mylite 2's, fullbacks, microchamber paper, acid free ink, and archival or acid free labels you are good for around 30 years. I always date them when I put the label on the back sealing it shut. The labels, ink, and I think microchamber paper can be purchased at Michaels, the rest at comic shops and ebay.

I just got a batch or egerber supplies in yesterday. I decided to try a pack of Standard and Current Size Mylites+, they are 1.46mil, so shy of the 2mil but they are nice bags. And are a little cheaper than the 2mil, but not much. I think my next order will be for current 2mil bags and half backs. The one thing that I'm not sure I cared for was the backs do not go corner to corner. They are not snug. They are the correct backer for the bag thought. I'd prefer they went edge to edge. 725M2 7 1/4 x 10 1/2 Standard Comics 2mil - 1970's-90's 1000, $160.00 725M+ 7 1/4 x 10 1/2 Standard Comics - 1970's-90's 1000, $150. So not a big difference for a little more protection.

My previous question was applying to modern comics and such. I guess it would be nice to know which mylar bag would fit all books.

Just put in a order at gerber. Going to test out some mylar and see what thickness I like. Need to pick up some top loaders and micro chamber paper. Where's a good place to pick up toploaders? Cheers

First off I like your Icon, "Death Dealer" I've been a Frazetta collector since the mid '70's. I've been using Mylar bags pretty much since they came out back in the early to mid '80's. I put all my more valuable comics in Mylar and the rest of my collection both comics & magazines in My-lites when they came out in the '90's. I will have to get the Micro Paper. Great tip. Thanks for sharing.

Great video, I have recently done the Mylar switch, I use fullbacks and mylites E Gerber. I haven't however made the full on ultimate switch yet. Meaning, acid free boxes, acid free tape and microchamber paper! I do love the idea of investing in some microchamber paper however. From an esthetic point of view I do like the look and feel of Silver age books in the 1mil Mylar arklites. Because it feels better and seems more enjoyable to the eye and hand. Like you can almost feel the book as if it's not even bagged and boarded, the downside is their too fragile the 1 mil. But I do agree about humidity. Anyways nice video and good luck with your Mylar!

Great video my friend! Mist of my collection consists of CGC, but my loose copies I keep in Mylars open top thick! I actually prefer those over the thin mylites because when I've turn books into CGC the way you have, they got damaged thru the CGC packing from con to facility. But if you're not CGC you're books, that's the way to go!
@RAG7188 жыл бұрын
Nice informative video... yea I use mylar too, silver age mylars are the best... bigger then the typical bag so the comic can breath. Micro-chamber paper is what I use to for all my raw comics.

Great tips brother. For me unfortunately, I can't get Mylar here in Canada, so I'm stuck with Mylites, which aren't that great as you said. I don't mind the polypropylene bags and boards but we all know they don't last forever. I just gotta make do. Cheers Pal.

You definitely could do that. It wouldn't hurt. You may need golden age or magazine size but check into it first.

BOXES? cardboard or plastic boxes?? plastic adds heat/hot? so is better use cardboard? I like the plastic because prevent mold and water but maybe is not good for comics, I see comic collectors use cardboard. any help?
@alpertroncp21987 жыл бұрын
Sebastian Spatafore You won't get condensation in a cardboard box, and the bags your comics are in protect from the air as cardboard won't be air tight.
@EviEhvee10 жыл бұрын
So for Mylar I should get the golden age ones? Do the brand of backbaords matter?
@bws2058 жыл бұрын
+Goose24 I recommend E Gerber.....get the Silver/Golden age size for your silver ages but there will still be empty space on the left and right....the Standard size Gerbers will fit most silver age I have found, but there are a few silvers that will be a tight fit, and if its double sized you will need the larger size.

The comics I get from my store that are in bags and boarded they alway fall to the bottom but they are comics out of the 1 box so wat can I expect right gues some protection flawd or not is better nothing

What does the micro chamber paper do? I'm a noob to this, just getting into collecting comics :p
@bws2058 жыл бұрын
+JDMan96 absorbs the acid released from the interior pages of the comic that cause the cover/paper to turn brown over time
@MrBo1306 жыл бұрын
It also contains zeolites which help absorb atmospheric pollution (sulphur dioxide is a bad thing for pages).

thanks! new collector and I want to make sure to start off right. From what I've seen the best protection for the best price is the mylar/full back combo. I've seen toploaders but those are expensive and I don't have any super expensive comics yet

but plastic (mylar bags) don't breath! so that cause humidity! think yes is mylar but is a plastic bag, why not use other preservation paper to storage paper (comics) ????
@herohunter816 жыл бұрын
John Smith if there is humidity in the air and the bag is “breathing” then the humidity is touching you books. The point is WHERE you store them. Keep them in a low humid place. Keep humidity away. No matter what they are in, if it’s humid then it’s pointless.
@herohunter816 жыл бұрын
John Smith I don’t care how well they are sealed. If it’s humid in the outside air it will affect the air inside your bag of choice or whatever.
@MrBo1306 жыл бұрын
Mylar is a great gas barrier, but you are right in that it won't cut down on humidity per se. It will protect the comic from some outside influences, but it will not protect against high humidity, high temperature, or of course exposure to light. Plus, mylar will not do anything to protect the book itself if the pages are yellowing and acids are migrating from page to page. The only choice to slow down this process is to have the pages de acidified (which would then render the book "restored" if you were to send it to cgc) or to include a few pieces of microchamber paper.
@herohunter8110 жыл бұрын
Those are the golden age size. I got them before. They shouldn't put the words silver age on them. It can be deceiving.
@herohunter8110 жыл бұрын
Do your Mylars say Golden and Silver cuz they deceive you that way. They should say just Golden age but they have both. Of course people can fit a silver in a golden sleeve. Dummys lol. They do make a silver age only bag. 2 mil is a big difference I noticed. The ones you got have a silifane feeling like on cigarettes. I don't like that. They do make 2 mil also I think.

Does everyone have to play loud rap in the background of instructional vids? How annoying! I'd rather hear you NOT the idiots yelling in the background. I live in Florida. Can't avoid humidity. Is this why a lot of my books are turning brown in the interior pages? I have a beautiful TOS #72. It would be a 9.8 if graded. I've had it since 1990 and it was white/off white on the interior when purchased. Now it's browning. I don't use the micro chamber paper but do use mylites2 and Fullback boards. If it's the chamber paper needed, I could add that. But Ive had most of my books for decades and have lived in Florida the whole time. Are my books doomed? I'm not leaving any time soon. So what causes browning, is it humidity or lack of micro chamber paper? BTW, not all of my books are doing this but it's sad to me that one of my favorites, the Suspense 72 is turning on me.
