Letterman just steamrolled right over this act. When done at his own pace, it's a fine act; with Dave constantly badgering him with endless, inane questions, it was pretty much ruined.

4:59 distraction to make the crowd watch the host. 5:01 fast drop from mouth to right hand to take out all from his mouth. using the tissue papers as a cover so no one can see that he just drop it + his hands covering it. He makes sure his fast so no one will notice

I don't think it would be impossible to swallow them if you saturated them with saliva within your mouth (eww!), but you're probably right that it was slight of hand. Tom is a magician after all. I think it is tissues because they look big, but when wet enough that big white thing will actually pack down into something he could hide under his tongue, or in his cheek.. I was more interested in him than Dave though, who seemed to want to steamroller over him.

I agree, maybe the who idea is seeing such talent next to someone who so isn't. That sort of juxtaposition between talent maybe the point, like hanging out with people less attractive than yourself out of comparison. A sort of self promotion talented people have to go through, because who could actually tolerate Letterman? I don't know who they got that needed to cutoff Mullica's performance, but bro. They missed out on a solid guy continuing his set.
